‘Sweet H2O’ is a benefit fund raiser street dance and concert that will take place in downtown Sweetwater. The event will feature 11 musicians/bands that are scheduled to appear Saturday, July 28, starting at 5 p.m. The music will range from country to Texas music, blues, rock, folk and Americana. The beneficiary of this event is the Texas Theater in downtown Sweetwater.
The 2012-2013 Budget Draft was reviewed during the Sweetwater City Commission meeting on Tuesday morning, July 10, 2012 at City Hall.
Several items were discussed from the packet by City Manager Eddie Brown on changes that would be reflected in the budget. Among the items were a $1 increase for general admission to the city pool starting next summer, along with a 3.3% cost of living raise for city employees. In addition, the trend in sales tax numbers will be seen in the new budget.
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce held its monthly Chamber Coffee event on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the Sweetwater Country Club.
The event was co-hosted by the Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Rick Rhoades, who is the administrator for rural affairs and Robert Howden of Texans For Economic Progress.
AT&T also co-hosted the event. Randy Teakell is the local AT&T manager. Also speaking at the event was Bart Winegar, Technical Outreach Manager with Connected Texas.
After months of continuous declines in gas prices, the average for a gallon of regular unleaded is up seven cents this week in Texas. The current statewide average is $3.23. However, that is still 30 cents less than what summer travelers were paying this same time last year.Â
The national gas price average is now $3.38. In comparison, Texans are paying about 15 cents less than the national average. Drivers in Amarillo are paying the most on average at $3.33 and motorists in Corpus Christi are paying the least at $3.15. Drivers in Sweetwater are paying about $3.17.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 50 calls for service, issued no citations and made no arrests on July 11, 2012.
The SPD received 14, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had four calls for service, served no civil papers and made one arrest on July 11, 2012.
