You knew the Mustangs would find a way to win here Friday when Sweetwater and Andrews renewed their old rivalry.
Unfortunately for a large homecoming crowd, it was the visiting Mustangs who came out on top — but just barely — in a 20-16 thriller.
Andrews (2-0) opened up a double-digit (20-10) lead with 4:40 left when quarterback Shane Dolgener hit Austin Luna with a 25-yard touchdown pass.
But Sweetwater needed just 73 seconds of playing time to cut it to 20-16 when quarterback Sean Morrow led a furious drive which he capped with a 2-yard run.

These two 1962 graduates of Sweetwater (Newman) High School celebrated their 50th year reunion with old classmates this weekend. They helped crown Courtnie Thompson, who was chosen Friday as the 2012 homecoming queen at halftime of the football game held at Mustang Bowl between Sweetwater and Andrews.
During the SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Board of Trustees meeting held on Thursday, August 30, one of the items discussed was the campus and AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) ratings.
The state has recently raised the bar considerably in their specific standards. This past year, students--overall--were to meet the goal of an 87% passing rate or higher in Reading/English-Language Arts and an 83% passing rate or higher for Math in the new STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness).

Sweetwater High School Senior Courtnie Thompson was crowned the 2012 Homecoming Queen on Friday night, Sept. 7, 2012, during halftime of the homecoming football game. She is the daughter of Erica Hunt and Junior Hunt. She is shown with her escort, Romello Taylor. Thompson was crowned by the 1962 Homecoming Queen Betty Jamison Swann and the 1962 Mr. Mustang Buddy Alldredge.
