September 29th
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued 11 citations and made three arrests on Sept. 26, 2012.
The SPD received 17, 911 calls.
Calls for service:
• Fraud — 1100 block of Lamar.
• Family violence assault/impede breath — Sweetwater area.
• Unattended death — Sweetwater area.
Arrested by SPD:
• Joe Frank Cuellar, 58 — Warrant.
• Casey Chenault, 35 — Evading/reckless driver/driving while license invalid.
• Jerry Espinoza, 28 — Possession of marijuana.

The theme for this week’s pep rally was “Community Heroes.” Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden spoke to the crowd. Also making his first public appearance was Freddie the Fire Truck. Chief Madden spoke to the elementary students and said that they were true heroes for all of the fundraising they did to repair Freddie and bring him back to Sweetwater.

Sunday's weather will bring in some sun and a high near 79. Winds from the west around 5 mph will becoming north-northwest in the afternoon.

Tonight will be cloudy with a low around 63. Winds will be from the north-northeast around 5 mph. We'll have a 60% chance of precipitation with some storms producing heavy rainfall.

See You at the Pole 2012, the Annual Global Day of Student Prayer, took place on Wednesday morning, Sept. 26, at schools across the United States, including Sweetwater schools. Many students at Sweetwater Middle School and Sweetwater High School gathered before school for prayer. To celebrate the student’s efforts and what God is doing on Sweetwater school campuses, the Sweetwater Youth Ministers Alliance organized a post event rally called the Saw You at the Pole Block Party. The block party was held Wednesday evening, Sept. 26, downtown on Oak Street.
A Nolan County Grand Jury indicted 23 people on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, with one re-indictment. Fifteen of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:
Samuel Lloyd Hawrylak was indicted for possession of marijuana, a state jail felony. Court documents state that Hawrylak knowingly possessed a usable amount of marijuana in an amount of five pounds or less, but more than four ounces on July 27, 2012. His bond was set at $5,000.
Nine pleas were entered during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2011.
One person was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 in Nolan County. The crash occurred around 5 a.m. on Interstate 20, 2/10 of a mile east of mile marker 242 in Nolan County.
Michael Norris Creek 63, of Abilene was taken to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater. He was pronounced dead at 6:50 a.m. by Doctor Lufkin Moses. His body was taken to the Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene. The next of kin have been notified.
