During the SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Board of Trustees' meeting on Monday night, September 17, an update was given on the iPad initiative within the district.
Recently, due to a grant obtained by the district Director of Educational Technology, Mike Marlett, the seventh graders will be the next class to have iPads for their studies--almost a year ahead of the district's timeline.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 66 calls for service, issued six citations and made three arrests on Sept. 17, 2012.
The SPD received 17, 911 calls.

Nolan County Judge Tim Fambrough announced that the burn ban for the county has been lifted during a special-called Nolan County Commissioners' meeting on Monday morning, September 17.
The judge cited the recent rainfall received throughout the area--some totals almost reaching one inch--as reason for lifting the ban. The burn ban will remain lifted until the next meeting date, which is set for Monday, September 24 at 9 a.m. at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Sweetwater High School senior Kyle Lambert was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Permian Basin Fair in Odessa.
Each year, the fair gives scholarships to high school senior 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America) members who show livestock at the fair and complete the application and interview process.
Lambert is the Student Advisor of the Sweetwater FFA Chapter and First Vice President of the Area 2 FFA Association. On Sunday, September 9, he exhibited his market lambs at the Permian Basin Fair.
The Sweetwater Chamber recently announced the participants for the 2012 Leadership Sweetwater as well as the new Future Sweetwater class.

A Friday morning fire has left a family without their home and without any of their belongings. The fire was electrical in nature and consumed the entire home and a vehicle as well.
The family â€” Alvin and Rosa Rogers and daughter Gracy Sosa â€” is currently staying at La Quinta in Sweetwater and a donation jar has been put at the front desk for donations for the family. As of right now, the family is mostly in need of clothes, as all of their clothes were burned in the fire. Any donations are much appreciated. Family clothing sizes include:
