Great appetizers are full of flavor to stimulate the appetite, but not so rich that they spoil it. To get that balance, look to fresh, flavorful ingredients like Florida tomatoes.
Ripe tomatoes add beautiful color, great taste, and a host of healthy nutrients — like vitamin C — to any appetizer. Chef Justin Timineri, known as the Florida Chef, and Florida Tomatoes have created some mouthwatering appetizer recipes using the versaÂtile, tantalizing tomato.

Kayla Chowning was crowned Miss Snake Charmer Thursday night at the Municipal Auditorium. A sophomore at Sweetwater High School, she is the daughter of Wayne and Ann-G Chowning. Pageant coordinators said she is one of the youngest contestants to have won the title.
Another scam has hit the Sweetwater community in the form of donation jars being placed at several local businesses.
As Sweetwater celebrates the festivities of the 54th Annual World’s Largest Rattlesnake Round-up, local snakes will also begin to emerge from winter hibernation. Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) urges the community to know how to respond to snakebites.
Many different types of snakes can be found in Nolan County; some with poisonous venom that can have debilitating or even deadly consequences.
Rattlesnake Round-up weekend is full of fun and excitement, which can leave residents a little worn out. The Monday after it may seem a little harder to wake up, but to make matters worse, this weekend is the beginning of daylight saving time.
Saturday night when you lay down, after this long weekend, make sure to set your clocks one hour forward.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 60 calls for service, issued seven citations and made three arrests on March 7, 2012.
The SPD received 31, 911 calls.

• Shawn Garza, 20 — Purchase/furnish alcohol.
• Elio Garza, 24 — Purchase/furnish alcohol.
• Christina Delacruz, 31 — Public intoxication.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served six civil papers and made one arrest on March 7, 2012.

The West Texas Children's Advocacy Center hosted this month's Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce coffee event. Many filled the hallways and enjoyed networking and refreshments.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, so Hendrick Cancer Center of Abilene will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department, located at 301 E. 12th in Sweetwater from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, March 15, 2012. They will be offering the fecal occult blood test. A new easier and more accurate test will be used this year. The fecal occult blood test is a simple at-home procedure that checks a stool sample for hidden blood, which can be a sign of cancer, polyps or other internal disorders.
Ray Cornutt, Sweetwater Jaycee President and Chairman of the 54th Annual World’s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up, has released the schedule and prices for the upcoming Round-Up on March 9-11, 2012. The Jaycees have released that they will be paying $10 per pound for live Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes. The Jaycees have collected more than 300,000 pounds of Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes since the start of the Round-Up in 1959.
