Texas State Technical College Sweetwater will host a special discovery day on Friday, Jan. 27 for Veterans and their families.
VA support personnel, Veterans Services Officers, employers and TSTC faculty and staff will be on hand to answer questions. Tours of the Sweetwater campus will also be available. Food will be provided.
All active duty military,Â National Guard, reserve forces, military personnel that are separated, discharged or retired and military families are encouraged to attend.Â
The County-City Library is currently accepting donations of both adult and children hardback and paperback books, magazines and videos for the annual book sale which will be held Aug. 27 and 28 at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex.
Come to the garage door in the alley behind the library to unload the donations during business hours. Call 235-4978 a few minutes before arriving at the library to enable staff to be ready to help.
The hours of the library are Monday from 1-6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
AUSTIN â The Texas Veterans Commission announces the availability of $3 million in grants to be awarded from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veteransâ Assistance.
Grant funds will be awarded to qualified charitable organizations, Veterans Service Organizations and local government agencies to address issues affecting Veterans and their families.Â Services funded to date include transportation to medical facilities, counseling for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), housing assistance, short-term emergency financial needs, Veteran courts, legal assistance and career training.
USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) District Conservationist Mandi M. Ligon reminds agriculture producers that the ranking period cut-off date for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is Feb. 3, 2012. Producers interested in EQIP should submit applications to the Nolan County NRCS office by the deadline so their applications can be considered during the first ranking period of 2012.

Texans benefit every day from the tireless work and countless hours dedicated by a group of more than 7,300 men and women in communities across the state. These public servants are elected to serve by local constituents and receive no compensation for their efforts. These men and women are the school board members of Texas. January is School Board Recognition Month and Sweetwater ISD will take this opportunity to thank these local leaders for devoting time to support public education and serve our local schools.

Greetings from the Avondale Baptist Church family! We would like to invite everyone to come and worship with us. We are located at 1405 Hoyt Street. Our regular Sunday schedule is: coffee fellowship at 9:20 a.m., Sunday school Bible study at 9:45 a.m., worship services at 10:50 a.m. and 6 p.m. and choir practice at 7 p.m. On Wednesday evening we have On-Mission groups for all ages at 7 p.m.
After around only an hour and a half of deliberations, a five-woman, seven-man jury found Julian Castillo not guilty of indecency with a child by contact on Thursday evening, Jan. 12, 2012.
A number of testimonies from the defense were heard on the second day of the trial â including the defendant himself, in the 32nd Judicial District Court in the Nolan County Courthouse.
SWEETWATER, Texas â Sweetwater Goodfellows, the cityâs annual holiday season fund drive for Nolan County residents in need, has received a $1,000 donation from Tenaska, Goodfellows President Billie Johnston has announced.
âOn behalf of Sweetwater Goodfellows, I want to thank Tenaska for this generous contribution,â she said. âThis donation will help provide a happier Christmas and holiday season for many of our neighbors in need this year.â
Last Saturday the top student musicians across Texas gathered to participate in the final round of competition for the Texas All-State Band. In Lubbock, over 250 students were invited, representing over 100 competing schools, from Abilene to Amarillo to El Paso. Three students from Sweetwater High School competed. Sophomore French hornist Stephen Le finished in seventh place out of 20 auditioning, just missing all-state by three chairs. Sophomore alto saxophonists Chase Scott placed third out of 15, just missing all-state by one spot.
