BROADWAY BAPTIST CHURCH
Here it is, Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, the day the world is supposed to end. I am guessing that if you are reading this, it really didnât happen. A friend of mine said, as we were talking about our plans in 2013, âIt wonât matter because, according to the Mayans we wonât be here.â I replied, âIâm not worried about it, because Iâm not âMayan, Iâm Hisân!â And I pointed toward heaven.
The Sweetwater Municipal Band hosted their annual Christmas concert on Thursday evening, Dec. 20, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium, featuring the Sweetwater Performing Arts Center, Larissa Place and Rebekah Chrismer.
The band performed many holiday favorites, along with vocalists on several songs, as well as dancers on several songs. Shown is the band performing.
Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater has been seeing a new face on the campus of their church, as Emmanuel Jimenez was recently hired at the start of November as the church's new youth pastor.
Jimenez grew up in Bangs, Texas and is the youngest of four children. While his goal is to bring seventh through twelfth graders to grow up knowing Christ, his upbringing was on the opposite end of the spectrum.
The Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development, or SEED, hosted the recent Cline Shale Session--which allows community leaders from several cities to hold a roundtable discussion on the oil exploration and development--on Friday, Dec. 14, at the local TSTC (Texas State Technical College) campus.
Ken Becker, the executive director of SEED, served as the session host. Also representing SEED were board members Bill Johnson, Billy Whisenant and Dr. Jerod Peek.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 49 calls for service, issued two citations and made three arrests on Dec. 19, 2012.
The SPD received 20, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served one civil paper and made one arrest on Dec. 19, 2012.

After a cold start to this morning, expect sunny skies and a high near 61 this Friday. Winds will be from the south at 10 to 20 mph.
Tonight will be mostly clear with a low around 31, and southern winds at 10 to 15 mph.

On Wednesday, Dec. 19, Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas Board met to present awards to regional employers and recognize local initiatives at the regular scheduled board meeting.
Ludlum Measurements Inc., located in Sweetwater, was recognized as the Employer of the Year for their reputation of supplying radiation detection and measurement equipment throughout the world and their dedication to the Sweetwater community.
The winter holiday season is an exciting time when many people spend more time with family and friends, shop for holiday gifts, and begin to wrap up their year. With the hustle and bustle, health and safety can often take the back-burner.
This year, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) is reminding the community to become aware of the things many overlook during the winter holiday season; keeping themselves and loved ones safe during this joyous time of year.
Two reports were approved by the Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District) Board of Trustees during their meeting on Monday night, December 17 at the Administration Building.
The first report approved was the 2011-2012 financial audit report, which was presented by Kathy Wilks. A clean opinion was given on the financial statement as a whole.
A brief rundown was presented and discussed, which were compared to last year's information. Playing a role in this year's report were several grants, the energy conservation project and the passing of the Tax Ratification Election.
