Sweetwater will host more than 125 energy and infrastructure leaders from more than a dozen states around the USA on Wednesday and Thursday for the 5th annual Transmission Summit 2013 on the campus of Texas State Technical College West Texas. The 5th annual Transmission Summit is in the hub of Texasâ $9 billion grid expansion and the worldâs largest concentration of wind energy generation. The event includes project updates, business networking and industry sponsor exhibits. The event is sponsored by the Texas Wind Energy Clearinghouse.
Texas Midwest Community Network announces plans for Texas Midwest Day at the Capitol on Feb. 5. Community leaders from throughout the region are encouraged to participate.
âGenerally speaking, rural communities are at a disadvantage when it comes to influencing state lawmakers,â says TMCN President Kathy Keane of Eden. âBy joining together, a larger group of rural delegates gets more attention and presents a stronger voice in Austin.â
Law Enforcement Officials have arrested three individuals that were hiding in a house in southeast Colorado City in Mitchell County.Â
Early Monday morning, a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper had stopped a vehicle for speeding over one hundred miles an hour while traveling east near the Mitchell/Howard County line on Interstate 20. As the trooper approached the vehicle, the driver stepped out and began shooting. A pursuit ensued with the violator. The trooper lost sight of the vehicle near the community of Loraine in eastern Mitchell County.Â
USDA Texas Farm Service Agency (FSA) Acting Executive Director James B. Douglass announced that 207 counties in Texas were declared a disaster on Jan. 9, 2013, due to drought and heat using the new, streamlined Secretarial Disaster Designation process. Under this designation, producers with operations in any of the 157 primary disaster counties or 50 contiguous disaster counties are eligible to apply for low interest emergency loans.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 162 calls for service, issued 14 citations and made 17 arrests from Jan. 18-20, 2013.
The SPD received 71, 911 calls.
