Recently, 122 students from Blackwell, Highland, and Roscoe visited the 69 Ranch for another day of hands-on learning with Kids On the Land volunteers. This is the third year for the program due to the generosity of the Dickson Family, Buzzi Unicem, Infigen Energy, Nolan County Soil and Water Conservation Board and Hydraulic Supply and Service Company. Others in the Maryneal community provided food and volunteers.
Melanie Martinez, a contestant from The Voice, will perform at the Municipal Auditorium with Kimberly Dunn and Kristine Mirelle Saturday, Oct. 19 for the Sweetest Day Benefit concert.
Martinez finished at #5 on last Fallâs season of The Voice as part of Adam Levineâs team. Levine said many times on the show that he liked her because her voice and style were unique. Her uniqueness was obvious from the beginning as she played a tambourine with her feet while she played the guitar, singing Britney Spearsâ, âToxicâ with her own softer, Indie approach to the song.

In a natural or man-made disaster where many citizens, especially children are involved, âVerbal Judoâ is the means for calming a potentially volatile situation before it can manifest into physical violence. This kind of âconflict managementâ involves using posture, body language, tone of voice, choice of words and many more examples were given by Mr. Davis.
Nolan County Sheriff David Warren gave an update on the county jail project during the Sweetwater Kiwanis Club meeting held on Wednesday at Broadway Baptist Church.
Construction at the new facility, located on 211 Avenger Field Road, began on Monday, Sept. 30. A groundbreaking has been set for Monday at 1:30 p.m.
The facility will include a county jail with 96 beds along with a sheriff's office. At this time, Nolan County is one of just a few counties that still has their jail within their courthouse.
One airman had a goal to deploy once before his career came to a close, another was scheduled to deploy in September but had to depart earlier because of a shortfall. Each was destined for this particular base in Southwest Asia.
Senior Master Sgt. Joseph Doss is a 22-year veteran deployed from the 452nd Civil Engineer Squadron at March Air Force Base, Calif. He's a traditional reservist who is getting ready to complete his military career. But he wanted to deploy at least once before that career was over.
Maria C. Aguirre-AcuĂ±a, Associate Vice President Enrollment Management at Texas State Technical College West Texas has been named to the Executive Committee for the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACARO).
AcuĂ±a has been with TSTC West Texas for 27 years. She graduated with her AAS from TSTC in 1986 and began working as a student recruitment officer at the college. AcuĂ±a continued her education earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Masters in Management from Wayland Baptist University.
Patti Neill, Nolan County District Clerk, announced today that she would not seek another term. Her current term will end on Dec. 31, 2014, and she intends to complete her commitment.
Neill began her career with the county in 1977 as a deputy for Betty Bryant in the County Tax Assessor-Collector's office, then began working for District Clerk Vera Holloman in 1990. She ran for the office 16 years later when Holloman decided to run for re-election. At the time of her retirement, Neill will have served two terms.
