Roscoe is a member of Texas Midwest Community Network. The organization will host the 20th Annual Texas Midwest Conference on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Abilene Civic Center. The event kicks off a milestone year for the organization with the theme â€śMaking a Difference.â€ť It will be a day of celebrating local leaders who are making a difference in their communities. Mayor Pete Porter and City Administrator Cody Thompson represent Roscoe on the TMCN Council.
The Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development, or SEED, is collaborating with Fairmount Minerals and Sweetwater Switching CO. to host the BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) Groundbreaking Event scheduled for Tuesday, October 22 at 11 a.m. at the BNSF Logistics Center, located at 900 E. 17th Street.
The event was announced during the SEED board meeting held on Monday morning during the update given by the entity's asst. marketing/admin. director Kirstin Smith.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Terry's Homemade Ice Cream and Italian Ice on Wednesday morning. Located at 109 Locust Street (the blue building behind the Texas Theater), the shop first opened on Labor Day weekend. Terry's is owned and operated by Terry and Carol Frye of Sweetwater. Karen Peyton is the store manager with Kayla Fite helping out as well. Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce and community members, along with the Future Sweetwater group were in attendance for the ceremony.
At Monday morning's Nolan County commissioners' meeting, approval was given to a software contract to provide a database program for the county and district attorney's offices.
Lisa Peterson, the county attorney, explained that the current software had been purchased in 2000. While the company stopped supporting the software a couple years ago, the county still used the software, but now it is no longer working.
Sweetwater Middle School students enjoy Healthy Munchie Mondays in their nutrition elective class.
Every Monday the campus nurse, Tiffany Rotan and her nutrition class, create a healthy and easy to make after school snack. This past Monday, everyone enjoyed fruit kabobs and a fat free fruit dip.
