New boutique opens in Sweetwater

Located at 815 Lamar Street, Suite A is Side Effects, a funky, fun and stylish fashion boutique owned and operated by Kelly Putnam and her mother, Vivian Heffernan. Reflecting both women's personalities and fashion sense, the boutique is bright and full of flare, selling up-to-date fashion for girls and women of all sizes at reasonable prices. "You don't have to spend an outrageous amount of money to be fashionable," said Kelly.

It’s time for your annual flu shot

The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department is administering the flu vaccine during regular immunization clinic every Wednesday from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. and the second Wednesday of each month until 6 p.m. The cost is $20 for all adults and children 3-18 years of age, even if they have insurance. Medicare, part B is accepted. The cost for children who do not have insurance is $6 and Medicaid and CHIP are accepted. For more information regarding immunizations, call 235-5463.

Auto body students assist City

Students at TSTC (Texas State Technical College) in the West Texas Collision Repair Club, part of the auto body program at the school, recently assisted the City of Sweetwater by painting decals on trash barrels at Newman Park.
The trash barrels were recently painted by the TSTC Student Government, but auto body students stenciled “Parks Dept” on the barrels.

Early voting begins today

It might seem as if there's plenty of time left, but Election Day will be here before we all know it.
The Constitutional Amendment Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. At this time, however, voters can now start requesting a ballot by mail, in which Friday, Sept. 6 was the first day to apply.
The last day to register to vote was on Monday, Oct. 7. Additionally, the last day for the county clerk to receive the application to vote by mail is on Friday, Oct. 25.

Hamlin mayor to Run for State Representative

Hamlin Mayor Isaac Castro has announced his candidacy for State Representative for District 71. The district encompasses Taylor, Nolan and Jones Counties. Mayor Castro is a Republican and will run against incumbent Susan King of Abilene in the March 4, 2013 primary.

SEED hosts Texas A&M students

SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) recently hosted students from Texas A&M University on a "Landscape of Energy" tour. This was the third year for SEED to host the event, according to Kirstin Smith, the Marketing/Admin. Director for SEED.
All of the students--although from different backgrounds--are enrolled in a "Geography of Energy" course at the A&M campus. The information gathered from the tour will be used for a major writing assignment for the class, which is taught by professor Christian Brannstrom.
