The Kiwanis Club of Sweetwater will hold its first annual Home Runs vs. Hunger co-ed softball tournament on Nov. 2, 2013.
The entry fee is $125 per team. Teams must consist of at least 10 players, with a minimum of three ladies on the field. There will be unlimited substitutions and teams may bat 11.
Three home runs will be allowed per game and additional home runs can be bought for $5 each. A maximum of three home runs can be purchased.

The luncheon is hosted by Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital each year to honor survivors of breast cancer and remember loved ones. AdaBelle Clark, a 45-year survivor of breast cancer, was the guest speaker.

La Cocina Mexicana, located at 907 W. Alabama, has been a Sweetwater staple for 30 years now and they want to show their appreciation to the community for their patronage. Today is the restaurant's 30th anniversary and they will be serving free cake to customers on Friday to help celebrate the occasion. They will also have special prices on two of their best selling menu items. The #1 Mexican Plate will be available for $5.95 and the #2 Combination Plate will be available for $6.95 on Friday. (No substitutions on either plate.)
Southeast Elementary kindergarten and first grade students were visited by members of the Sweetwater Fire Department on Tuesday morning.
Fire Marshall Richard Spradlin and a number of his crew taught children about fire safety and how important it is to never play with fire. Shown are kindergarten students with Spradlin as he shows them how to operate one of the water hoses from the fire engine.
