To welcome the more than 300 people expected at J.P. Cowen Elementary Schoolâ€™s annual Fall Festival, ClearTalk Wireless will be handing out free giveaways including water bottles, small gym bags and 100 Whataburger certificates that are redeemable for one free Justaburger kidâ€™s meal. The certificates will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
The Fall Festival will run from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday and will also include food, fun and games for the entire family.
Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission will be hosting a Veterans Job Fair on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Taylor County Expo Center- Round Building (170 Hwy 36, Abilene, TX 79602).
All veterans, active duty, and family members are invited to participate.

The final shipment of hygiene products for the Bravo company 2-149 GSAB (General Support Aviation Battalion), a military unit out of Grand Prairie that is presently stationed in Bagram, Afghanistan, will be sent on Friday, Nov. 29.
The first care package sent to the Bravo company was this past July. The company consists of 122 soldiers, with four of them being female â€” one of which includes Ruby Montoya, the daughter of Sweetwater resident and package coordinator Minnie Cortez.
The new SNAP (Senior Nutrition Activities Program) building was accepted by the city commissioners during their meeting on Tuesday morning at City Hall.
John Voller with Enprotec/Hibbs & Todd explained that in the letter submitted to the city by the company, the building is in compliance of the specifications, although a few minor details are still being dealt with. Overall, the building is ready to be occupied--a good building that was constructed at a good cost.
Peter F. Sheridan, a local attorney, has announced his candidacy for Nolan County Judge.
He has practiced law in Sweetwater for almost 30 years and is familiar with the obligations and duties of the County Judge. He believes his experience as a practicing lawyer and knowledge of the County Court's various obligations will enable him to represent the citizens of Nolan County as County Judge.

The Nolan County Commissioners met Tuesday morning for their regular monthly meeting.
A resolution was approved to apply for an Indigent Defense Formula grant for the 2014 fiscal year from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission. According to Judge David Hall, the grant is funded by the state and totals about $20,000.
Approval was given to advertise for bids on a used computer from the District Judge's office. County Commissioners voted to leave the burn ban off for another two weeks as well.
Several applicants recently took the entrance exam for a place at the Sweetwater Fire Department. According to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden, 11 applicants took the written exam and nine passed the test to go on to the physical agility test the next day.
