Woman’s Forum donates to Pioneer Museum

The Woman's Forum recently made a donation in the amount of $2,259 to the Pioneer Museum from their Evening at the Museum/Pumpkins on the Porch event.

School delays and closings

Blackwell ISD is closed on Monday.

Highland ISD begins at 10 a.m., buses run two hours late on Monday.

Roby ISD begins at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Sweetwater ISD begins at 10 a.m., buses run two hours late on Monday.

Texas State Technical College Sweetwater campus opens at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Kids Kampus and Lang Aycock Daycare Centers in Sweetwater will open at regular times but will not have transportation to schools on Monday.

Marsha Harris announces candidacy for District Clerk

Marsha Harris is announcing her candidacy for the office of District Clerk in Nolan County.
“As life-long residents of Nolan County and current residents of Blackwell, my husband of 29 years, Ronnie ‘Rabbit’ Harris and I have raised two wonderful children,” she said.
Their son, Garritt Harris, is a graduate of Blackwell CISD and Western Texas College. Brooklyn Harris, their daughter, is a senior at Blackwell CISD. In addition, they are all members of First Baptist Church in Blackwell.

Connie Jamison announces candidacy for District Clerk

Connie Broadwell Jamison is announcing her candidacy for District Clerk of Nolan County.
Sweetwater is her hometown and she is a graduate of Sweetwater High School and Columbia Secretarial College. She is the daughter of R.E. Broadwell (deceased) and Charlie Broadwell.
Jamison has two sisters, Patricia “Treet” Broadwell and Deb Veal, and one brother, Richard Broadwell (deceased), one brother-in-law, David Veal, and one sister-in-law, Vicki Broadwell.

Various projects taking place within SISD

Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District) Superintendent Terry Pittman gave an update on the facilities within the district during his monthly report at Monday night's meeting of the Board of Trustees.
Photos were shown to the board of the various projects, such as the new concession stand at Sweetwater Middle School and the bus barn. The latter facility will see further work, as the plan is to cover the fuel station and all of the busses.

TSTC Nursing provides on-site medical assistance at Komen 3-day in Dallas

Twenty-two Texas State Technical College West Texas nursing students, plus faculty attended the Komen 3-day in Dallas. They worked to provide medical assistance to the attendees as well as volunteers. The group slept in on-site tents for the duration of the event. The Associate Degree Nursing students, who are already Licensed Vocational Nurses, volunteered to function as nursing/medical staff while gaining leadership clinical experience. The group attended a medical training workshop last month in preparation for the event where more than 1,200 walkers participated this year.

Rescue truck involved in wreck

November 22, 2013

First responders were on the scene of several vehicle accidents on Friday morning, with at least three reported, one east of town, one south of town and one west of town. Most of the accidents did not require patient transports and no serious injuries were reported. One of the Sweetwater Fire Department’s rescue trucks was hit from behind by an 18-wheeler that was jack knifing. Both members of SFD that were in the rescue vehicle have been released from the hospital. Shown is the wrecked truck, showing the compartment that stored the hydraulic spreaders, also known as the Jaws of Life.

Grand Jury indicts 22

November 22, 2013

A Nolan County Grand Jury indicted 22 people this month. Fifteen of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:
Machele Cathlene Flores aka Machele Cathlene Light was indicted for possession of a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine, a state jail felony. Flores possessed less than one gram of the controlled substance on Feb. 8, 2013, according to court documents. Her bond was set at $7,500.
