The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 45 calls for service, issued six citations and made one arrest on Jan. 16, 2013.

The SPD received 45, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Burglary of a vehicle — 1600 block of San Carlos.
• Aggravated assault of a child — Sweetwater.

Arrested by SPD:
• Blake Linebaugh, 20 — Warrant.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had six calls for service, served no civil papers and made two arrests on Jan. 16, 2013.

Arrested by NCSO:
• Andron Lee Rains, 22, of Sweetwater — Warrants/burglary of a building x2.

SEED continues involvement in Cline Shale Sessions

The local economic development group will continue to take part in the Cline Shale Sessions, as SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) Executive Director Ken Becker outlined the next three months of the sessions during Monday's meeting of the SEED board of directors.
The January meeting, to be held in Snyder, will also consist of a dedication ceremony of a rail park. In February, the meeting will include assistance from former Sweetwater Mayor Rick Rhodes along with other state agencies.

Nolan County stock show kicks off

Kaegan Jeffrey is shown during the steer show at the Nolan County Livestock Show that kicked off Wednesday.
The show continues tonight and runs through this weekend.

Second bond issued for county projects

On Monday morning at the Nolan County Commissioners' meeting, action was taken to approve an order authorizing the issuance of the second bond for the county projects.
This general obligation (GO) bond is for the 2013 year and was approved at $5,730,000. On the agenda, the amount was not to exceed $5,870,000.
Vince Viaille from Specialized Public Finance, Inc. and Tom Pollan from Austin were in attendance at the meeting to present the information to the commissioners.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 60 calls for service, issued nine citations and made five arrests on Jan. 15, 2013.

The SPD received 32, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Burglary of a vehicle — 1600 block of San Carlos.
• Credit/debit card abuse — 1600 block of Bristol.
• Family violence assault — 700 block of Pease.

Arrested by SPD:
• Male juvenile, 12 — Assault.
• Jacob Aguilar, 17 — Warrant.
• Patrick Gonzales, 17 — Warrant.
• Whitney Byram, 25 — Driving while license invalid/warrant.
• Levi Cockrill, 21 — Theft.

Pumpkin Black Bean Tortilla Soup:
A hearty soup plus nutritious! Pumpkin adds extra flavor, fiber and Vitamin A. Black beans are very high in fiber, folate, protein and iron and don’t forget the tomatoes, which are loaded with Vitamin A and C. Enjoy making this soup by adding more or less of the ingredients. I do encourage you not to leave out the cumin. The cumin gives a subtle smoky flavor. 

12 (6 inch) corn tortillas 
1/4 cup olive oil
1 medium white or yellow onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoons ground cumin

Business park filled to capacity

The SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board of directors met on Monday morning at the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce.
Opening the meeting was an executive session. The 80-minute meeting, according to the agenda, addressed economic development, real property negotiations and personnel matters.
While no action was taken in the closed meeting, several action items were presented in regular session. Approval was given for the sale of five acres in the Sweetwater Business Park to Jet Specialty, Inc. at the cost of $4,000 per acre.

County service awards presented

January 16, 2013

Six county employees were honored with service awards during the Nolan County Commissioners' meeting on Monday morning.
In attendance to receive their award were four of the recipients, which included David Brazelton, who has served as the Precinct 1 foreman for 20 years and Bridger Anglin, who has spent the past 10 years as the Court Collections office administrator.
Also commended for their five years of service to the county were Elizabeth Vera and Annelle Hill for serving as the Extension Office secretary and a Sheriff's Office jailer, respectively.
