Registration opened for the fifth annual Suddenlink Open Tony Gibson Memorial Fishing Tournament, to be held Saturday, March 2, at the Concho Pavilion on Lake O.H. Ivie, 24282 County Road 4763, in Millersview. Once again Joe Thomas, host of âStihlâs Reel in the Outdoorsâ on Outdoor Channel â Americaâs Leader In Outdoor TV, will award prizes and greet competitors.
For the second year in a row, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) will be hosting a 24-hour Treadmill Walkathon. The hospital announced that the event is scheduled to kickoff at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 and run through 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 23, at the hospitalâs Cardiac Rehab Center.
As cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the United States, RPMH continues to raise awareness of cardiovascular diseases through community events such as the walkathon.
If you've ever walked into the Sweetwater Reporter office and wondered who the smiling face is that greets you, wonder no more. That lovely lady is ShaQuita Bray.
Quita was born in Ft. Worth and grew up in Abilene where she attended Abilene High School. She moved to Sweetwater in 2006, and has remained here ever since.
The Sweetwater Fire Department recently had a wildfire class put on by Texas A&M Extension Service. It was a week-long class, put on at the local fire station.
The class covered many topics, ranging from safety on the fire grounds, to what equipment to take on deployment, communications, fire behavior in the wildfire setting, managing risk and deploying a fire shelter.Â
A public hearing was held during February's Sweetwater City Commission meeting to consider requests for the abandonment and closure of two right-of-ways.
The first right-of-way is platted as a future dead-end street extension of Industrial Drive, which is currently undeveloped and located in the western portion of Lot 8 of the industrial park. A similar, yet developed, parallel dead-end street currently exists approximately 155 feet to the east.

Several Sweetwater Jaycees and Sweetwater Jaycee Roosters participated in the annual safety demonstrations and promoting the Sweetwater Jaycees 55th Annual Worldâs Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up. It all took place in the Open Rotunda at the Capitol in Austin.

The Cline Shale oil development is slowly but surely making its way to Sweetwater, leading the city commissioners to approve some measures during their Tuesday meeting in order to stay ahead of the activity.
Approval was given to the first reading of an ordinance which will amend Chapter 19 of the city's Code of Ordinances entitled "Motor Vehicles and Traffic." Changes would be made in Article 6 ("Stopping, Standing and Parking"), Division 1 (Generally) of Chapter 19 by adding a variety of sections.
Everyone wants to be inspired. We all want to be motivated and challenged to be our best, fulfill our purpose and achieve our dreams. Beginning this Sunday, Feb. 17, Trinity Baptist Church will host a conference entitled âInspired,â which is designed to do just that. Each night at 6:30 p.m. from Sunday through Wednesday, everyone in the community is invited to join in times of worship and celebration at Trinity Baptist Church located at the corner of Hailey and Santa Fe. Jon Randles will be the speaker for Inspired and these times promise to be a blessing for all who attend.
On Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, the Nolan County Sheriffâs Office received a report of two burglaries that took place in Roscoe.
The first burglary was reported to have taken place at the apartments on Cedar Street. It was reported that an unknown person(s) entered the apartment and took several items, including a flat screen television, DVDs and other household items.
The second burglary was reported to have taken place at the residence just east of Roscoe. The homeowner came home and discovered a male subject inside the residence. The suspect fled the residence and was believed to be on foot.
