Crawfish and Shrimp Etoufee

Ingredients:
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 small green bell pepper, diced
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 stalks celery, diced
2 fresh tomatoes, chopped
2 tablespoons Louisiana-style hot sauce
1/3 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
(optional)
2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning blend
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup fish stock/clam broth/chicken stock
1 pound crawfish tails
1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined

New ordinance relating to food vendors in effect

The Sweetwater Jaycees Rattlesnake Round-Up is approaching fast, bringing many food vendors to town. Individuals and organizations cannot sell food to the public without a county health permit as required by State and County law. A new ordinance went into effective last November requiring all food vendors to renew permits yearly. This means food vendors at the Round-Up must fill out a new permit application prior to their inspection.

Nolan County United Way's 2013 Rattlesnake Round-Up gun raffle will benefit the nine local agencies assisted by NCUW including Big Country Medical Reserve Corp, Boy Scouts, Cancer Services Network, Gateway Family Services, Girl Scouts, Senior Nutrition Activities Program (SNAP), Sweetwater Back Pack Buddies, West Texas Children's Advocacy Center and the Women's Resource Center.
The gun raffle is sponsored by Wind Energy Turbine Services (WETS) of Sweetwater.
Raffle prizes include three Savage Axis XP's ~ Camo- Rifle/Scope Packages with one 22-250, one 243 and one 270.

Round-Up offers several events

Rattlesnake Round-Up week is finally here.
From Thursday, March 7 through Sunday, March 10, the Sweetwater Jaycees host their 55th annual event at the Nolan County Coliseum. As usual, several activities are being held in conjunction with the Round-Up.
The Round-Up itself will actually be Friday through Sunday, March 8-10, at the Nolan County Coliseum. Gates will open at 8 a.m. all three days, closing at 5 p.m. on Friday and Sunday and at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Educational Diagnosticians’ Week is Mar. 4-8

At the beginning of last month, Texas Governor Rick Perry said that a week should be set aside each year during the month of March to highlight the contributions of a particular field of educators.
As a result, March 4 through 8 has been proclaimed as Educational Diagnosticians' Week in Texas.
"I urge all Texans to recognize the important efforts of educational diagnosticians," Governor Perry stated in the proclamation. "Their hard work contributes to the success of our young Texans and to the future of the Lone Star State."

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued no citations and made one arrest on Mar. 4, 2013.

The SPD received 30, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Theft — 300 block of NE Georgia.
• Burglary of a vehicle — 1100 block of Silas.

Arrested by SPD:
• Female juvenile, 14 — Runaway.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 10 calls for service, served 10 civil papers and made four arrests on Mar. 4, 2013.

Arrested by NCSO:
• Gilbert Raul Aguilar, 21, of Port Lavaca — Warrant/motion to revoke probation.
