Growing up my parents loved to listen to country music. Of course that meant that while we were traveling, we had the privilege of listening too. One song in particular stuck in my head that went like this: â€śIâ€™ve got a tiger by tail itâ€™s plain to see...â€ť Iâ€™m sure many of you remember that song. Itâ€™s about a man that went bear hunting, and when he finally caught one, he didnâ€™t know what to do with it.
The month of May has several events lined up, which were noted by City Manager Eddie Brown during his monthly report at Tuesday's meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission.
On May 4, a celebration marking 105 years of the Sweetwater Fire Department will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire station. Grant Madden, the city's Emergency Services Director, extended an invitation to the commissions and the public for the event.
The Highland One Act Play has advanced to Area competition and will compete at the Area 2 Region II contest Saturday, April 13 at the Naoma Huff Performing Arts Center at Clyde High School.
The Highland cast of students is performing scenes from â€śAll My Sons,â€ť by Arthur Miller, published by Dramatists Play Service.
During the Sweetwater City Commission on Tuesday morning at City Hall, a bid was awarded for the construction of a bulk water station which will be located at the Highland High Service Pump Station.
City engineer John Voller reviewed the two bids received by the city, but recommended the bid from Purcell Contracting Limited in Meridian, Texas.
Their project totaled $312,000 and had a completion date of 150 days from the start date. Although both bids were in compliance, the selected company's price came within the range hoped for by city staff.
The City of Roscoe and the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed Rockinâ€™ S Cantina to Roscoe with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued six citations and made two arrests on April 10, 2013.
The SPD received 23, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 10 calls for service, served one civil paper and made no arrests on April 10, 2013.
