As a family we loved to bowl.Â We would bowl on evening leagues, and I had the privilege of bowling on a Saturday morning youth league.Â Our team was so good.Â We were never challenged for last place, but we always had fun!
The WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) Museum will host the 9th Annual WASP Homecoming this Saturday, May 25, at Avenger Field in Sweetwater. Along with the 18 WASP in attendance will be Julia Wood, a modern day WASP in her own right. Wood began flying in 1981 while still a freshman in high school in St. Paul, Minn., earning her private pilot license at the age of 17. Since graduating high school, Julia has earned a BS in Aviation Technology from Purdue University, she has piloted a variety of aircraft including Boeing 727s and she has logged more than 15,000 total flying hours.
The automatic spending cuts enacted by the federal government--known as sequestration--began earlier this year, in which Head Start programs across the nation were impacted. And during the Monday night meeting of the SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Board of Trustees, Superintendent Terry Pittman addressed the local program as part of his monthly report.
With an almost 6% budget cut, Sweetwater ISD is a big part of the Head Start/Early Head Start program within Region 14. As a result of the losses, employees from Region 14 will be helping with various local duties.
Maj. Caroline Jensen, 36, is in her first season with the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, âThunderbirds,â and flies the No. 3 jet as the teamâs Right Wing. She will be the featured speaker at the WASP Homecoming luncheon at Texas State Technical College on Saturday.

Tonight, our precipitation chances increase to 40%, but we'll have mostly cloudy conditions with a low around 67. winds will remain from the southeast at 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Rain chances will decrease to 20% on Saturday, but expect highs this weekend between the mid-80s and low 90s. Lows will be in the mid-60s, and winds will be moderate with gusts up to 30 mph.
