Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital was recently presented hand drawn coloring books by Cub Scout Pack 146 to be given to hospitalized pediatric patients. The Scouts are sponsored by 4th and Elm Church of Christ.

The 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year for Sweetwater High School is Christi Adams. She teaches AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) for students in all grades, serves as the varsity boys and girls cross country coach, and is also the junior varsity boys and girls tennis coach.

The second annual Teen Book Club will meet at the County-City Library Monday, July 22 at 12:30 p.m. for a pizza party. The book selected is âSpeakâ by Laurie Halse Anderson. The Teen Book Club will watch the movie âSpeakâ based off the book they selected. Call 235-4978 for more information.
Mustang Moms will be holding weekly meetings on Mondays at 6 p.m. in the Sweetwater High School fieldhouse. Every mom is needed and every mom is welcome.
A volleyball camp will be held July 22-25 at the Sweetwater Middle School gym for students who have completed grades 3-8. The camp will be from held from 9-11:45 a.m. each day. The cost includes a T-shirt. Pre-registration is appreciated. A concession stand will be available. The goal is to improve playersâ skills in volleyball for the upcoming season with instruction through games and fun team competitions.
A Mustang Football Camp will be held July 22-25 at Mustang Bowl from 7:30-10:30 a.m. daily for students entering grades 3-9. All campers will receive individual instruction from members of the Mustang coaching staff. The camp will place emphasis on skills and drills and will also have both punt, pass and kick instruction and competitions. There will be refreshments, T-shirts and certificates. A local military mother is doing her part to make sure that our servicemen and women are being taken care of on the battlefield.
Minnie Cortez made a presentation to the Sweetwater Kiwanis Club during their weekly meeting held Wednesday at Broadway Baptist Church. Her daughter, Ruby Montoya, is a Sweetwater native who has toured twice in Iraq and is currently deployed in Afghanistan.
The anticipated boom from Cline Shale oil development is on the horizon, but with the expected growth, one particular venture is working to be fully prepared in one specific aspect.
Recently, Turn Key Solutions and Larson Ventures held ribbon cutting ceremonies in Snyder and Sweetwater to showcase their Custom Touch Villages. The location in Snyder was completed in record time within 60 to 90 days, and according to Dave Ferguson with Turn Key Solutions, he anticipates the same timing for the Sweetwater site.
Due to the wet weather conditions in the area, the closure of westbound Interstate 20 did not take place as scheduled this week for the work to be done on the US 84 overpass that is currently under construction. Closure was scheduled to allow crews to pour the deck of the new bridge. Crews cannot pour the bridge deck until conditions are drier. The Texas Department of Transportation is now planning to close the westbound lanes of I-20 the afternoon of Tuesday, July 23 to complete the work and reopen the interstate the afternoon of July 24.
