RPMH has much to celebrate this week

Local medical center honors work of nursing team and observes national celebration of hospitals

As many rural healthcare facilities struggle, residents of Nolan County have much to be thankful for as Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) continues to thrive amidst a challenging economy and an ever-changing healthcare landscape. The local medical community will join the nation in celebrating National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week.

Blood drives in Sweetwater tomorrow

Meek Blood Center will bring two bloodmobiles to Sweetwater on Thursday, May 9 from noon until 6 p.m. The bloodmobile that usually parks at the Nolan County Courthouse will be parked in the First Financial Bank parking lot located across the street from the Post Office. The other bloodmobile will be parked at the Lions Club building at 1501 Lamar Street.

Petty receives superior rating at Bible Drill

On Saturday, April 27, Brooklynn Petty drilled at the Children's Bible Drill in Lubbock at Calvary Baptist Church. 
On one call her finger was placed on the wrong side of the page in the Bible. She received a Superior rating. 
Pictured with her is her sister, Justynne Petty who would have qualified for state drill if she had been one year older. Also with them is their coach Natile Woodrow.
They were representing First Baptist Church of Sweetwater.  Brooklynn and Justynne are the daughters of Roland and Leigh Petty of Sweetwater.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 37 calls for service, issued no citations and made two arrests on May 6, 2013.

The SPD received 20, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Theft — 1000 block of Silas.
• Theft — 1000 block of Vards Lane.
• Burglary — 1000 block of Robert Lee.
• Unauthorized use of a vehicle — 500 block of E. Fourth.

Arrested by SPD:
• Terry Bradley, 39 — Warrants.
• Christopher Ramos, 21 — Assault.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had six calls for service, four civil papers served and made two arrests on May 6, 2013.

TSTC, LMI to host summer robotics camp

TSTC (Texas State Technical College) and Ludlum Measurements are presenting a Summer Robotics Camp from June 3-6, 2013 at The Center on the TSTC Sweetwater campus for students entering grades four through seven.
Participants can experience the wonder and excitement of designing and programming robots in a collegial environment, while also choosing to experience other fun activities that include art, math, medicine or technology.
Sessions are broken into half-day and full-day camps so that students can select the best choice for them. Everyone will receive a free t-shirt and goodie bag.

Women’s Forum donates to Girl Scout metal flower garden

The Woman's Forum winter fundraiser was a great success according to members of the local club. Their main project was to raise $1,000 for the Camp Boothe Oaks metal flower garden and to give the Pioneer Museum some funds for their yearly budget.

Kim K. Lewis is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Administration. Lewis is an Administrative Supervisor with Luminant Power, the largest wind purchaser in Texas, and the fifth largest wind purchaser in the United States.
Luminant specializes in power generation business with plant and mine, wholesale marketing and trading and development operations. It has over 15,400 megawatts of generation in Texas, including 2,300 megawatts fueled by nuclear power and 8,000 megawatts fueled by coal.

TNB awards Good Grades Pay winners

Sweetwater High School had another great six week period with 66 students making the A-Honor Roll and Texas National Bank continued with its commitment to recognize and award one lucky scholar from each grade with $50. The winners of the Texas National Bank Good Grades Pay award for the fifth six seeks were Michael Hunt (ninth grade), Caroline Brennan (10th grade), Taylor McPherson (11th grade) and Janell Walker (12th grade).
