McGowan running for Nolan County Clerk

Patricia "Pat" McGowan is officially informing the citizens of Nolan County of her intent to once again have the privilege of running for the position of Nolan County Clerk.
"It has been both an honor and a privilege serving the people of Nolan County over the past 13 years and I am once again asking for your vote on March 4, 2014," said McGowan.

AgriLife Extension sets Southern Rolling Plains Range Workshop for Nov. 14

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service along with the Nolan County Soil and Water Conservation, Dow, DuPont and the Natural Resources Conservation Service will conduct the Southern Rolling Plains Range Workshop beginning at 8 a.m. on Nov. 14 at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex in Sweetwater.

Highland royalty crowned

Highland Crowning 2014 took place on Thursday evening, Nov. 7, during halftime of the Hornets' last football game.
Crowned were Football Hero — Laramie Thompson (senior) and Football Sweetheart — Beth Richburg (senior). Also shown are crown bearers Zachary McNeely, son of Pat and Brenda Turner and Brianna Baucom, daughter of Shea and Latrice Baucom.

Former Sweetwater Reporter editor dies

Former Sweetwater Reporter editor, Donald A. Rogers from Grapevine, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the age of 79 years old due to a massive heart attack and stroke.
He was born Feb. 28, 1934.

Funding approved for US 84 project

In an ongoing effort to improve safety and relieve congestion, the Texas Transportation Commission recently approved $11.5 million for a project to improve nearly three miles of US 84 in Nolan County.
Price Construction, Ltd., of Big Spring was awarded the project to reconstruct, realign and widen US 84 from five miles east of the Mitchell County line to about a mile northwest of Roscoe. A start date for the project has not been set, but construction is expected to be under way by early 2014.

SFD recognizes Wal-Mart

Randie Jones, Sweetwater Wal-Mart Manager was presented a certificate of appreciation by the Sweetwater Fire Department.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the donations your company has helped us with in the recent years. All the way back to about five years ago when Wal-Mart helped us purchase things like the ladder truck, help us buy a new dive boat, the gift card donations to help supply food for the community at our 105th anniversary party, and most recently, the gift cards to update our EOC here at the station," said Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden.

Victory Flag unveiled at SHS

The flag shown flying in the photo above is the new Victory Flag, designed and created by the Mighty Mustang Band to fly at Sweetwater High School after every victory by any group at SHS. It was unveiled this week after the big win Friday night in Monahans.
Pictured are the two Drum Majors of the Mighty Mustang Band, Crysten Ivy and Andria Golden. During the halftime show tonight, the band will perform a "Black-Out" performance by turning off the lights in the Mustang Bowl.
The Mustangs will take on the Wylie Bulldogs beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Today, we'll see partly sunny skies with a high near 68. Winds will be breezy, with a south wind at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Expect partly cloudy conditions tonight, with a low around 44 and southern winds around 15 mph.
This weekend, we'll have highs in the low 70s, while lows will run from the upper 40s to low 50s. Winds will come mainly from the north and will vary from 5 to 15 mph.
