Carroll Kearney, President of the Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Club (SRPC), presented Bearett Eckhardt, a student at Texas State Technical College, with a $1,000 scholarship Friday morning.
The SRPC has been giving Nolan County high school seniors scholarships for the past five years and to TSTC students for the past three years. Bearett was chosen based on his grades, need, application and resumĂ©, and plans for the future.

September is National Cholesterol Education Month and to acknowledge this occasion Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Lab will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E. 12th, on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. to offer free cholesterol screening. The health department would like to say thank you to the hospital for their years of service providing free services to the public at the facility.

The hours of the museum are Tuesday through Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Any and all information is appreciated.
Cub Scout registration will be held tonight, Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the 4th & Elm Church of Christ youth center (in the back).
A free Cub Scout handbook will be given with registration. Registration fee is $6.25, and forms and fees will be collected this night.

This Monday and Tuesday, Nolan County and the City of Sweetwater, respectively, will recognize a community member who has been very active, through the reading of proclamations. "Wes Bishop Day" on Tuesday will allow friends, family and the community to recollect on Bishop's achievements and involvement not only from a professional standpoint, but at a personal level.
For almost 36 years, Bishop served as the Director of Physical Therapy at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH). However, very serious health issues recently forced Bishop to step down and not return to work.
The Roscoe Collegiate Independent School District board of trustees, administration and staff would like to extend an invitation to the local community and surrounding area to attend the 2013 Open House for Roscoe Collegiate ISD on Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 6-8 p.m. in the Roscoe Collegiate Special Event Center.
During a recent Sweetwater Kiwanis meeting, members were informed about an opportunity to reach out to a group that often goes overlooked.
Gonzalo "Speedy" San Miguel, Jr. has been a volunteer chaplain with the Texas Department of Corrections for the past 25 years. His ministry has allowed him to teach various Bible studies in Breckenridge, Sweetwater, Snyder, Colorado City, and most recently, in the country of Belize at the Belize Central Prison.

The Sweetwater Woman's Forum Executive Board met at noon on Tuesday at the home of Dr. Judy Clayton.
The objectives of Woman's Forum shall be to promote acquaintance and mutual helpfulness among women and their organizations to aid in civic and intellectual improvements.
Woman's Forum meets on the second Tuesday of each month at Bee's DĂ©cor. New and old members are invited and encouraged to attend the next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 at Bee's.
