See You at the Pole and Beyond the Pole happen Wednesday

A small group of teenagers in Burleson, Texas, came together for a DiscipleNow weekend in early 1990. They came seeking God and little did they know how powerfully He was about to move. On Saturday night their hearts were penetrated like never before, when they became broken before God and burdened for their friends. Compelled to pray, they drove to three different schools that night. Not knowing exactly what to do, they went to the school flagpoles and prayed for their friends, schools and leaders.

Mayor presents Royce Porter with key to city

Sweetwater Mayor Greg Wortham presented Royce Porter — successful songwriter and recording artist and also a Sweetwater High School graduate — with a key to the city on Friday at the Texas Theatre after the Mustang’s Homecoming football game.

RPMH to break ground on new cardiac rehab, wellness center

Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) has been busy the last couple of years with renovations and expansion projects to meet the growing healthcare needs of Nolan County. The hospital will kick-off then next phase of its growth plans on Tuesday with a groundbreaking ceremony for a new cardiac rehabilitation and wellness facility. "We're in a busy and exciting era here at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital," said Donna Boatright, administrator of RPMH. "Our construction projects have been the result of the growing and evolving healthcare needs of Nolan County.

Carney crowned 2013 Homecoming Queen

Sweetwater High School senior Megan Carney was crowned the 2013 Homecoming Queen during halftime of Friday night’s football game. She is the daughter of James Carney and Bryan and Tricia Gregory. She was escorted by Max Gomez.

Shale Show planned in Sweetwater

Shale Show 2013 will take place Tuesday-Wednesday, Oct. 1-2 at the Nolan County Coliseum in Sweetwater’s Newman Park. Shale Show is the inaugural version of an energy technology showcase, business networking, and information sharing event that will be held in every odd-numbered year in Sweetwater, in the heart of the Cline Shale and America's Energy Solutions Region.
Shale Show is open free to the oil and gas industry, regional leaders and businesses, and to the general public. A very limited number of indoor and outdoor display spaces are still available for a fee.

Ten years after his passing, a local student’s legacy lives on in classrooms

The Kid Scoop page, a weekly feature of the Sweetwater Reporter, is a child-friendly tool that teaches kids about English, science, history and other subjects. The page is used as part of the NIE program (Newspapers in Education), which allows students to have access to the local newspaper in the classroom.
NIE is provided to local students through the sponsorship of several local businesses. But the top of the Kid Scoop page lists its sponsor — the family of Chad Lindsey.

United Way to kick off 2013-14 campaign

The Nolan County United Way (NCUW) is set to kick off their 2013-2014 campaign, "United We Are STRONG," this coming week, Sept. 23-27.
During that week, agency representatives and board members will be visiting with area businesses asking for their support as well as thanking the many loyal contributors that helped raise over $70,000 this past year.

It’s homecoming weekend in Sweetwater. Graduates from all years will gather in town, have parties, reminisce and enjoy each other’s company once again. (By the way, it is true, the older you get the better you were.) There will be a parade, kids will enjoy candy and then Sweetwater will take on Wall High School. GO MUSTANGS! It will be a great weekend of fun and festivities for all.
