The Nolan County Crime Stoppers have announced two Crimes of the Week.
On Thursday, May 16, 2013, a burglary was reported to the Sweetwater Police Department. It was reported that sometime between Wednesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 16, 2013 unknown person(s) entered a business located on the north side of town near FM 1544 and Elm. The unknown person(s) stole several large items as well as tools, ladders and smaller items.
Texas A&M Agrilife Extension's Family Consumer Sciences agent Tasha Baxter (Nolan County) provided a program entitled, "Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes" for patients with diabetes and their families, as well as any others interested in attending. The Sweetwater-Nolan County Heath Department sponsored the location and Alice Velez with the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital's Diabetes Outreach Program provided free blood glucose testing. The program was divided and presented into four different areas with four different speakers with special knowledge in those areas.
Residents of Nolan Nursing and Rehab were spotted enjoying a breakfast outing at Buck's restaurant recently. This outing is offered once monthly and isÂ one of theÂ highlightsÂ of the activities program offered by the home.Â Pictured is Myrl Frazier, Shirley Zetsman, Karla Knight A.D., June Lamb, Bonnie Gill, Norma Martinez, R.A., Donald McGregor and Mark Bolton.

Recently, a local firefighter paramedic received a letter of commendation after he and his team responded to an emergency situation.
The letter to Lance Campbell, given to him by Sweetwater Fire Chief/Emergency Services Director Grant Madden, recollected on an incident that occurred on Sunday, April 28. A call for assistance was received from Highway 70, just north of town.
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for Errand Solutions, Inc. Elaine Gray, owner/operator, is pictured cutting the ribbon with Stacy Dove, Liz Howard, Judge Tim Fambrough, Janis McDowell, Debbie Anthony, Ken Becker, Brenda Stirl, Kirsten Smith, Jacque McCoy, GayNell Cherry, Aida Pantoja and Vickie May.
Today will be partly sunny with a high near 85. Winds will be from the east at 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies with a low around 65. Winds will be from the southeast around 10 mph, and we'll also have a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Saturday (during the daytime hours) will be our only chances for rain this weekend, but expect highs in the lower 90s with lows in the mid 70s. Winds will be from the south-southeast throughout the weekend.

Lone Star Ag Credit would like to congratulate the following Texas students: Maddi Cavender of Sherman, Rachel Pruitt of Rotan, Chandler Burke of Dallas and Hunter Morris of Annona. They are all winners of a college scholarship from Lone Star, ACA.

Texas State Technical College West Texas was awarded $65,000 for scholarships from The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for new and returning students. This grant has been awarded to fund scholarships for students in Texas â€” Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) related programs.
Applications for a T-STEM scholarship are now available at westtexas.tstc.edu. Click on the button at the bottom of the homepage and follow the directions on the application. Application deadline is July 17, 2013.
Security Finance in Sweetwater, located at 1103 Lamar Street, will host a Customer Appreciation Day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.
Door prizes will be given away every hour, leading up to a grand prize drawing for a canopy patio swing (shown above). Barbecue and refreshments will be served throughout the day.
