(Sweetwater) - Texas State Technical College West Texas (TSTC) and Petroleum Education Council Safety Management (PEC) have joined forces to create a pipeline of well-trained, credentialed workers for the Oil & Gas Industry in Texas. TSTC will teach PECâ€™s â€śOil Field Preparation Systemâ€ť (OFPS) which is a job readiness program that prepares job seekers for the oil and gas industry. This safety-based job readiness program prepares job seekers for work in the industry on land and offshore.
Once again the Nolan County Soil and Water Conservation District has made a donation to the Kids On the Land (KOL) program and fully supports the mission of KOL and the concept of bringing agricultural education to life while out on the land. Mandi Ligon, District Conservationist in the Sweetwater office, has also provided support and leadership for the program at the 69 Ranch.

CHILDRESS â€” Back-to-school means back-to-traffic, and as students return to the classroom this fall, the Texas Department of Transportation calls on drivers to â€śDrive Friendly. Drive Safe.â€ť to reduce crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists.
Sweetwater ISD held a Red Run on Monday morning to help start the school year off strong. Faculty and staff members, as well as students and community members were invited to the 8 a.m. run.
All who attended showed their school spirit by wearing red and white. Dye stations were set up along the route to throw red powder at the runners, covering them head to toe by the end of the race.

It's time to lace up those running shoes for a good cause--the 2013 Sweetwater Heart Walk.
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 14 at the Sweetwater Mustang track field. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 9 a.m.
The local Heart Walk, a fundraising initiative which supports the American Heart Association (AHA), has been taking place for over 20 years. Two years ago, the walk was changed from its spring schedule to become a fall venue, according to event coordinator Jerrie Gee.
TEMPLE, TX â€” State Representative Susan King will be the featured speaker at the West Texas Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (WTASWCDS) meeting August 27. The meeting will be held at the Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater with registration starting at 9 a.m.
â€śBeginning at 10:00 a.m. and prior to the business session, soil and water conservation district directors attending the meeting will be given a tour of the National Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) WWII Museumâ€ť said Johnny Ussery, President of the WTASWCDS.

The supply list for SISD has been updated. Notice that hand sanitizer and wipes have been removed from the list. Please do not send these products to school with your child. Children should be monitored when using products that contain alcohol because it poses a possible health risk to them. In order to provide your child with a safe and healthy learning environment, automatic hand sanitizer dispensers have been installed in multiple locations on every campus and their use will be monitored by teachers.

The four cousins came together and recently held their second annual lemonade stand on Morris Avenue, raising money to benefit the Gaylord's Pantry in Sweetwater.
They are the grandchildren of Tere and Vicki Lawrence.
