Both main lanes of westbound Interstate 20 at the US 84 overpass in Nolan County are scheduled for closure the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 12 for ongoing bridge replacement work. The closure will continue through Tuesday, Aug. 13, and lanes will be open the following day.
Traffic will be detoured to US 84 Business and routed around the overpass before being directed back to westbound I-20.Â Signs, cones and message boards will be in place to direct drivers.

Richard W. Fergeson State Farm will be hosting a Back-to-School Bash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23.
They will be serving hot dogs and drinks and will have games for children to play. Prizes for games will include school supplies for students. The event is not just for State Farm customers, but for the entire community.
Congressman Randy Neugebauer will be in Sweetwater on Monday to meet with business leaders in Sweetwater and Nolan County. Congressman Neugebauer will give the public an update on the latest happenings in Washington and will be available to answer questions at the informal gathering. The event will be from 11 a.m. to noon at the Student Center at Texas State Technical College, 300 Homer K Taylor Drive.
Congressman Neugebauer represents the 19th Congressional District of Texas, which stretches across 27 counties and includes the cities of Abilene, Sweetwater, Big Spring and Lubbock.
On Thursday, the accountability ratings for schools was released by the TEA (Texas Education Agency). This year is the first year for the new system, which measures four main aspects: student achievement, student progress, closing performance gaps and postsecondary readiness.
Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District), along with all of the district schools, obtained the "Met Standard" accountability rating, which is the highest of the two rankings within the new system, according to Sweetwater ISD Superintendent Terry Pittman.
The recipient of the SMS (Sweetwater Middle School) Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013 was Shaunna Cleckler. She was also named the SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Secondary Teacher of the Year for the past school year.
Cleckler is a sixth grade Social Studies and G/T (Gifted and Talented) teacher. Out of the 25 years that she has been teaching, all but four of them have been spent at SISD.
Cleckler earned her degree in Elementary Education as a reading specialist from Abilene Christian University. She is also a member of the TCTA (Texas Classroom Teachers Association).

Reserved season football tickets for the 2013 season will be up for renewal to current option holders beginning Thursday, August 8 through Friday, August 30.
Tickets may be purchased at the Sweetwater ISD Administration office. Tickets are $30 for five home games.
Reserved ticket sales for the general public will go on sale on Monday, Sept. 2 The last day to purchase season tickets will be Friday, Sept. 13. Tickets will be sold during regular business hours.

Verbal Judo! This month the Big Country Medical Reserve Corps will offer training conducted by Scott Davis, USAF Retired. Verbal Judo is a way of using words as a way to maintain mental and emotional safety. This kind of â€śconflict managementâ€ť involves using posture and body language, tone of voice and choice of words as a means for calming a potentially volatile situation before it can manifest into physical violence.
Highland Heights United Methodist Church recently consecrated a collection of school supplies for needy students in the second and third grades at the Sweetwater East Ridge Elementary campus. The school outreach ministry is one of several ministries that the church sponsors throughout the year.
