The Sweetwater Police Department awarded Roscoe Collegiate High School graduate Alura Renteria with this year's Floyd L. Smith Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500.
Renteria received her Associate's degree in general studies and pre-law through the collegiate high school and plans on obtaining both her Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in criminal justice at Angelo State University in San Angelo.

A one-day closure for both main lanes of westbound I-20 at the US 84 overpass in Nolan County has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 27 for ongoing work to replace the bridge that was damaged after a collision in September 2012.
The closure was originally scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, but is now planned for the following week due to an unavoidable delay from a material supplier.
Westbound I-20 will be closed early in the morning on June 27 to allow crews to place beams on the new structure. All interstate lanes are expected to be open by June 28.
Friday's forecast is shaping up to be sunny with a high near 94. Winds will be from the south at 15 to 20 mph.
Tonight will be clear, with a low around 73 and southeastern winds at 15 to 20 mph. After midnight, winds will decrease to 5 to 10 mph.
This weekend, expect highs in the upper 90s with lows in the lower 70s. winds will be from the south-southeast and breezy, with gusts up to 30 mph.

A Legislative Update Workshop was held Wednesday, June 19 at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex in Sweetwater. Cline Shale Alliance members, as well as non-members, were invited to hear from industry leaders and elected officials on the latest from the 83rd session of the Texas Legislature and pending issues in Washington.
The Lieutenant Governor of District 35 of Kiwanis made a visit to the weekly meeting of the Sweetwater Kiwanis Club and learned about the local civic group's current and upcoming projects.

Nolan County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Dennis Cumbie, announced that county committee election nominations began on June 17, 2013. Farmers, ranchers and landowners are encouraged to nominate candidates to serve on their local FSA county committee by the Aug. 1, 2013 deadline.
Elected county committee members serve a three-year term and are responsible for making decisions on FSA disaster, conservation, commodity and price support programs, as well as other important federal farm program issues. County committees are comprised of three to 11 members.

A Nolan County Grand Jury indicted 15 people this past week. Ten of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:
Michael Ray Smith was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony. According to court documents, Smith threatened his victim with imminent bodily injury by trying to stab the victim with a knife. His bond was set at $20,000.
Ittticha Kay Taylor was indicted for family violence assault, a third degree felony. According to court documents, Taylor hit her victim in the nose. Her bond was set at $12,000.
