City projects discussed at commission meeting

Various updates on completed and ongoing city projects were given by Eddie Brown during his City Manager's report at Tuesday's City Commission meeting.
On Thursday, January 23, a ribbon cutting will be held for the new SNAP (Senior Nutrition Activities Program) building. It will take place at 1:30 p.m. and hosted by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce.
The commission was also informed that McDonald Companies is applying with the TDHCA (Texas Department of Housing & Community Affairs) for housing tax credits to construct apartments for senior citizens age 55 and older.

Updates given on courthouse construction

In the afternoon session of the county commissioner's meeting held on Monday, Turner construction gave updates on both the courthouse facade construction and the new jail and sheriff's office. To date, there have been no safety incidents at the courthouse.

Active month for SEED

The month of January proves to be a very active month for SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development), as noted during an update from Asst. Marketing/Admin. Director Kirstin Smith at the board of directors' meeting held on Monday morning.
Last week, they participated in the Cline Shale Alliance meeting, which had very good attendance. And this week, SEED was able to offer an economic development update to the members of the Future Sweetwater class and join the group on a tour of USG and Buzzi Unicem.

Robbery at Apple Creek

Sweetwater police arrested a robber just a few minutes after the holdup.
According to Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda, 25 year-old Robert Dulaney knocked on the door of an apartment at the Apple Creek Apartments on Tuesday. When the door opened, Dulaney pulled a knife, forced his way inside, and took money from the occupant, along with a gaming console.
Sweetwater police officers later spotted the suspect's car and made the arrest.
All of the stolen property was recovered. Dulaney was taken to the Nolan County Jail.
