Healthy Weight Week is Jan. 19-25, so to observe this event on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 8 a.m. to noon, residents can come to the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department and get weighed. There will be pamphlets available on eating right. Stay the New Year off right by getting healthy.
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will host their second member benefit lunch from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday. Jan. 16. The event is free to all Chamber members and lunch is provided.
Sarah T. Page Consulting, LLC will be on hand to speak about social media marketing. This face-paced session is based on examples of promotions used by small businesses from across the country using social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. It features marketing ideas that are creative, easy, free, create partnership opportunities and that most importantly drive sales and grow the customer base.
Tyrone Amos of Sweetwater recently orchestrated a community food drive at Jones Park. A total of 273 pounds of canned and dry goods was collected and donated to the Food Bank of West Texas which provides food to most homeless shelters and disaster areas.
Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains (GS-TOP) are ringing in the New Year and the 2014 Cookie Program with the roll-out of a brand new cookie and new technology.Â These new elements will further enhance the worldâ€™s largest girl-led business which will take place this year in the Abilene area from Jan. 10 to Feb. 23.Â Counties in the Abilene Area include: Callahan, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Kent, King, Knox, Mitchell, Nolan, Scurry, Shackelford, Stonewall and Taylor counties.
