Two people were killed in a car crash four miles outside of Sweetwater Friday night.
Around 10:30 p.m., a truck hauling cattle was driving north on Highway 70. After coming down a large hill, Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden says the driver missed the curve at the bottom of the hill. The truck went off the roadway to the east, through a guardrail and overturned, DPS says.

On Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, the Nolan County Sheriffâ€™s Office received a report of a theft that occurred at a Snelson Companies, Inc. construction site located on county road 126 (Stink Creek Road) in Sweetwater. It was reported that sometime between Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at 5 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at 7:30 a.m. an unknown person(s) entered the site and took a portable Sullair 185CFM DPQ-JD air compressor valued at approximately $6,000. The unit was being leased by Snelson from Abilene Rental Center, Inc.

AUSTIN â€“Â The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is proposing an amendment to the Parks and Wildlife Code that would make it illegal to use noxious or toxic substances to disturb or collect nongame wildlife as well as prohibiting the possession of nongame wildlife collected using these substances.
The technique, often used to collect rattlesnakes, is commonly referred to as â€śgassing.â€ť Persons engaged in structural or agricultural pest control activities would be exempted from the rule.
This monthâ€™s featured artist at the County-City Library is Ryan Smith. Using a Nikon D7000 and various lenses â€” Tokina 11-16mm, Nikon 18-105mm, Nikon 55-200mm and Nikon 80-400mm â€” Smith is able to capture astonishing nature photos.
â€śItâ€™s hard to pinpoint exactly, but my interest in photography really stemmed from a general admiration of nature and the outdoors in all facets: weather, wildlife, scenery, insects, etc.,â€ť says Smith. â€śAs a child, I was fascinated with National Geographic and all of their nature photographs.â€ť
The Nolan County Commissioners met for a final time in 2013 on Tuesday morning to discuss and take action on a proposed project to obtain grant funding from TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) for the planning, construction, reconstruction and maintenance of public roads, bridges and culverts in the county damaged by the exploration, development or production of oil or gas.
The project is pursuant to Senate Bill 1747, which was enacted in 2013 by the Texas Legislature in chapters 222 and 256 of the Texas Transportation Code.
