Medical Reserve Corps meetings

The Big Country Medical Reserve Corps (BCMRC) will have two meetings on Monday, January 13 at the training room at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
The first meeting will be held at 6 p.m. for the advisory board, while the following meeting at 7 p.m. is a general board meeting. New members will have their ID pictures taken, and Joni Coons will be speaking about CPR.
The BCMRC would also like to announce that from this point on, meetings will be held on the first Thursday of every month.

Cline Shale Alliance Luncheon

The quarterly luncheon of the Cline Shale Alliance was held on Friday at the Nolan County Coliseum.
The organization brings together regional leaders, industry, business, institutions and political subdivisions in the production and support of counties in the Cline Shale oil and gas region of West Texas. Attendees came from a variety of places, including Sweetwater, Abilene and surrounding communities, extending as far west as Midland and Odessa, and as far south as Austin and San Antonio.

Nolan County Junior Livestock Show coming up

Each year approximately 200 FFA and 4-H youth participate in the Nolan County Junior Livestock Show. Students in Blackwell FFA, Highland FFA, Roscoe FFA, Sweetwater FFA and Nolan County 4-H Clubs participate in the Nolan County Livestock Show. "These exhibitors invest countless hours in their projects - steers, hogs, lambs, goats, chickens and rabbits - with hopes of earning the Grand Champion prize during the 2014 show," said Nolan County Livestock Association President James L. Sanderson.

On Saturday night, 4th and Elm Church of Christ will welcome Christian comedian Bob Smiley to their campus. He will be performing a free show from 6 to 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. David Peyton, the Outreach Minister at the church, stated that the congregation would like to invite the entire community to this free event for a night of clean family fun.

Meeting held over proposed state law change

A meeting was held on Thursday evening bringing the Sweetwater Jaycees, the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses together in an effort to stop the proposed state law change by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department regarding the use of noxious substances to collect non-game wildlife, which includes the gassing of rattlesnakes.
