Trinity Baptist to call Pastor

According to an article, Henry Ford asked some engineers to box the transmissions for his Model-T Fords in certain sized boxes. He gave meticulous dimensions and material instructions for these boxes. The builders were confused, but they did as they were told. 
When the transmissions were delivered, the factory workers took apart the boxes and used them for the floorboards!  Mr. Ford was thinking ahead!

On Thursday morning, Feb. 27, 2014, at about 10:07 a.m., Deputy Duwon Sterling with the Nolan County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of someone burning trash or debris at 125 Loop 170, also known as Avenger Field Road inside the city limits of Sweetwater.

The Sweetwater High School baseball team held a brief ceremony on Thursday to honor Wes Bishop, the former director of physical therapy at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, who died last October.
Bishop’s wife Margaret came out to throw the first pitch prior to the Mustangs’ game against Pampa, before receiving a baseball autographed by members of the team.
This year’s annual Wood Bat Classic was renamed the Wes Bishop Wood Bat Classic, honoring a man who made numerous contributions to Sweetwater’s baseball program and was also a youth baseball coach here for 20 years.

USG sponsoring Winter Olympic athletes

Everyone wants to win. Whether it's to attain victory, maintain a winning streak or to overcome the odds, the goal is to succeed. Especially in business.
The local Sheetrock company United States Gypsum, or USG, has a plan to win. And according to Jeff Grimland, the new plant manager at USG in Sweetwater, one way the company wants to implement the plan is through a new brand logo and tagline.
The new logo boasts two building blocks that represent who they are. The red block exudes confidence, while the gray block stands for humility.

Lady Hornets will face lightning-quick Calvert in state semis on Friday

The Highland girls basketball team has faced a lot of shorter teams — most much shorter — on its way to a second straight appearance at the state tournament held in Austin.
Garden City, whom the Lady Hornets defeated 51-37 in the regional finals at Abilene Christian University, was the latest team to have trouble dealing with a Highland team that has four starters who stand 5-10 or taller.

Nolan County farmer supports local school through America’s Farmers Grow Communities

Local farmer Randy Petty has directed a $2,500 donation to the Cornerstone Christian School. Funded by America’s Farmers Grow Communities, the donation will help the school purchase new technology for kindergarten and first grade classes.
Thanks to the support of farmers across the country, more than $3.2 million is being directed to nonprofits in 1,289 counties in 39 states.

RPMH continues physician recruiting

The 2013 Human Resources (HR) report was presented at the Nolan County Hospital District's board of directors' meeting, which was held on Monday evening at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH).
Ame Monroe, the new HR director, gave an overview of the report to the board, in which she stated that a new evaluation tool is being used. Overall, totals and results were comparable to last year's report.

UPDATED: Law enforcement involved in on-foot chase

UPDATED:
11:17 a.m., The suspect has been identified as Roger Davidson.

11:07 a.m., The suspect is now in custody of local law enforcement.

ORIGINAL:
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office, Sweetwater Police Department and Department of Public Safety are currently involved in an on-foot chase of a male individual near the TSTC West Texas - Sweetwater campus.
Also involved in the search are canine units and a helicopter.
More information will be presented as it becomes available to the Sweetwater Reporter.
