A couple of weeks ago on what is famously known as â€śGround Hog Dayâ€ť in Punxsutawney, PA, Phil saw his shadow, which is supposed to mean six more weeks of winter.Â Honestly, it doesnâ€™t make me feel any better knowing winter will carry way into the month of March.Â
A groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday afternoon at 400 E. Avenue A in Sweetwater â€”Â the site for the new Sweetwater Police Department.
Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda and Sweetwater Mayor Greg Wortham spoke at the ceremony, saying that the new building has been a long time coming and construction is expected to be finished by December.
April 25-26 - Deep Creek Art Festival is now accepting applications for the Spring 2014 festival, April 25-26, 2014 in Snyder. Deadline for applications is March 15, 2014.
The Deep Creek Art Festival is a juried art festival. Jurors will select artists' in 14 categories: Painting, 2D Mixed Media, 3D Mixed Media, Clay, Digital, Drawings/Pastels, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Leather, Metalwork, Photography, Sculpture and Wood. There is a $15 non-refundable fee per application.

A total of $23,807 was raised on Wednesday for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the annual MDA Lock-Up that took place at the Sweetwater fire station. According to organizers, this year has raised the most money ever in Sweetwater during an MDA Lock-Up. A total of 32 "Jailbirds" contributed to the money raised, getting donations from businesses, organizations and individuals for the cause.
This year, AARP Foundation is again providing free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers with low to moderate income through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, in its 45th year, is the nation's largest free tax assistance and preparation service, providing free tax assistance to Texans of any age and giving special attention those 60 and older. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this free service.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. â€“ NTE Energy announced today that it plans to develop, own and operate one of the most reliable and clean sources of capacity and energy in ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. The Pecan Creek Energy Center, located near Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas, will generate enough power to supply approximately 200,000 homes and will represent an investment of over $200 million.
