TSTC hosts Senior Citizen Appreciation Day Tuesday

Texas State Technical College will have a Senior Citizen Appreciation Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the TSTC West Texas Fitness Center. Come join TSTC for fun, fitness and refreshments! (Bring your tennis shoes). TSTC Nursing students will be available for blood sugar and blood pressure. RPMH adds key members to the team

Hospital demonstrates commitment to career advancement and patient experience with recent staff appointments

As Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) continues to keep up with changes in the healthcare industry, the local healthcare provider has announced that they have filled two key positions within the organization.
Ame Monroe has been appointed director of human resources. A 15-year veteran at the hospital, Monroe will leverage her expertise to advance the department and support RPMH team members through HR duties.

Beat the Street for Little Feet set for April

The goal of Cornerstone Christian School is to lay a foundation for children ages one through eight educationally, spiritually, socially and emotionally. And in order to attain those goals, the second annual "Beat the Street for Little Feet" will help raise money for the school--which will go toward program enhancement and scholarships, as well as allow families an opportunity to get physically active.
The event will involve a 5K run, a 50K bike tour, and a one-mile fun run, which will be held on Saturday, April 26 starting at 8 a.m. Each race will cost $25 per individual.

RPMH offers free cholesterol screening

February is American Heart Month, to observe this occasion Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E. 12th, on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to offer free cholesterol screening. There will be pamphlets and information available on cholesterol.  
The health department will be closed on Monday, Feb. 17, for President’s Day.

Local church hosts diaper drive

The CCD students at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish had a diaper drive during the advent season.
They collected 72 packages of diapers, 22 packages of baby wipes, several baby items and the seventh graders collected $246.86 in baby bottles that the Abilene Deanery provided to them. Most of the items were donated to the Pregnancy Resource Center in Abilene and some items are being kept at the church for any mother in need.

TSTC director invited to lead session at AWEA Safety Conference

Keith Plantier led a session about Standardization of Training at the AWEA Safety and Operations Management conference recently.
AWEA invited Plantier to lead the session in which he spoke about the TSTC West Texas Wind program, which has earned AWEA's Seal of Approval annually since 2011.

Expect a 20 percent chance of snow between now and 1pm. Otherwise it will be partly sunny, with a high near 41 and wind chill values between 9 and 19. Winds will be from the south around 10 mph.
Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 33 and southern winds at 5 to 15 mph.
For the weekend, we'll see highs in the low 60s. However, a change in nighttime lows will be evident from Saturday to Sunday, with Sunday night's low at 28.

Authorities busy on snowy day

Local authorities were busy on Thursday morning, responding to several calls of wrecks including one on Interstate 20 mile marker 244 when a vehicle rolled over in the west bound lane.
Shown, members of the Sweetwater Fire Department also responded to a vehicle fire in Fisher County. The vehicle was fully involved when firefighters arrived at the scene.
There was nobody in the vehicle when the blaze began and the cause of the fire is unknown.

NCUW gun raffle begins

Nolan County United Way along with co-sponsors; Smartt Move, LLC and WETS, Inc. are set to kick off the Nolan County United Way's Third Annual Rattlesnake Round-Up Gun Raffle, benefiting NCUW's nine local agencies and the thousands of Nolan County residents they support.  These agencies are Boy Scouts of America-Texas Trails Council, Cancer Services Network, Gateway Family Services, Girl Scouts-Caprock Council,  Medical Reserve Corp, Sweetwater Back Pack Buddies, SNAP, West Texas Children's Advocacy Center and Women's Resource Center.
