Light Crust Doughboys to perform at SISD schools on Monday

Three Sweetwater schools will have the opportunity to hear the iconic and legendary Light Crust Doughboys perform next week, prior to their performance next month at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium as part of the APPLAUSE Music Series.

Nolan County Cruisers donate to WTCAC

Madison Black and Peggy Parrott of the West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center receive a $1,250 from Josh Walden, Danny Wann and Roy Mize of the Nolan County Cruisers, which organizes car shows in the area.

Today, October 17, Highland Heights United Methodist Church, located at 1801 Lamar Street will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 18. There is an electric cooktop, television sets, punchbowl sets and lots of miscellaneous.
Several events are lined up on Saturday, such as the 4th Annual “BBQ-ing in the Wind” Steak Cook Off in Roscoe during the West Texas Wind Festival.

Libertarian Peterson seeking Congressional votes

As more and more Americans grow disgruntled with Democrats and Republicans, alternative parties and the politicians running on their tickets have gained traction.
The Libertarian Party is arguably the most popular of the third party options. Hoping to bank on the growing acceptance of Libertarian principles is Richard "Chip" Peterson, who is challenging Randy Neugebauer for the 19th Congressional District seat in the upcoming Nov. 2 elections.

Roscoe Collegiate grows student involvement in plant science

Roscoe Collegiate ISD has received a $10,000 grant from America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. The district will use the money to implement Operation Growth Chamber, a hands-on learning program to be used in conjunction with the district’s greenhouse.

Oct. 14 proclaimed World Polio Day

Local Rotarians (from left) John McPherson, Brian Frieda, Jeremy Dodd, Walt May, Russ Petty, Michael Ables and PDG Cesar Caro are joined by Commissioner Jerod Peek, City Manager Eddie Brown and Mayor Jim McKenzie during McKenzie's proclamation that Oct. 14 hereby be known as World Polio Day. The Rotary Club has played an instrumental role in providing preventative measures for polio worldwide over the decades.

And at 12:30 p.m., the Sweetwater LIFT (Living is for Today) luncheon will be held at The Center at TSTC.
Call 325-670-6999 to make a reservation for the buffet lunch (there is a cost to lunch). There will be a program.
