Events scheduled for Thursday

Today, October 23, the Sweetwater Book Review Club will meet at 3 p.m. in the community room of the County-City Library.
Dr. Linda Linn will be the guest reviewer. Attendees are welcome to invite friends.
And get your spook on at the Mitchell County Senior Citizens Halloween Dance tonight from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Colorado City Civic Center, located at 157 West 2nd Street. There will be live music featuring Mike Porter and Kevin Rainwater.
Bring your favorite creepy treat or dress to scare. There will be an entry fee per person; call Faye at 254-654-5785.

Roscoe welcomes two new businesses

The City of Roscoe recently welcomed two new businesses with ribbon cutting ceremonies. Shown are residents at the ribbon cutting ceremony for The Turquoise Toad, located at 101 Cypress Street.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was also held for Roscoe Thrift Store, located at 905 1/2 Broadway.

Benefit dance planned for Friday

There will be a Benefit Dance at The Lumberyard in Roscoe on Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. All proceeds will go towards cancer treatment, prescriptions and pain management for Krysti (Weems) Medellin. All ages are welcome and encouraged to come and have a good time while donating to a good cause.

Game Warden to host hunter education class this Saturday

Nolan County Game Warden Jake Simmering will host a hunter education class from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at TJB Outdoors, located at 1500 Lamar Street in Sweetwater. RSVP to 325-669-0396.

Sweetwater students had the opportunity to hear the iconic and legendary Light Crust Doughboys perform prior to their performance next month at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium as part of the APPLAUSE Music Series. Round-Up for Rehab slated for next week

Cowboy poet/musician Red Steagall is the Honorary Chairman for Round-Up for Rehab. He will be in Sweetwater for this year’s Shrimp Peel and Auction on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Sweetwater Country Club. The public is invited to attend and meet Red personally at the event that raises much needed dollars for the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

Light Crust Doughboys perform at meet and greet event

Members of the Light Crust Doughboys jam for a small crowd Monday evening after performing at Sweetwater Intermediate School during the day. The Grammy-winning band will be back in Sweetwater Nov. 1 for a concert at the Municipal Auditorium.
