Balloons for Randy at Southeast, PARADE TODAY

September 13, 2014

Randy Rodriguez, a six-year-old first grader at Sweetwater ISD (Southeast Elementary School) was recently diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor and is already under hospice care. Area schools, organizations and individuals gathered many balloons this week to help make a wish come true for Randy — to have a parade with lots of balloons. Every student, staff and faculty member at Southeast Elementary made a link to a chain to give to Randy at his parade, taking place at 10 a.m. on Saturday (TODAY). They also made signs and inflated many balloons for the event.

2014 SHS Homecoming Queen crowned

2004 Sweetwater High School Homecoming Queen Nancy Lopez crowned the 2014 SHS Homecoming Queen, senior Isabel Mendez on Friday night during halftime of the Homecoming football game.

Quail Research Ranch Field Day to open on optimistic note

ROBY – “Restoration of Quail and Their Habitats” will be the theme of the 7th annual Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch Field Day set from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, at the ranch 11 miles west of Roby on U.S. Highway 180.

City set to pass tax rate, budget

The Sweetwater City Commission, which met in regular session Tuesday, is set to pass the 2014-15 budget, as well as the tax rate, which remains unchanged from last year’s $.48 per $100 valuation.

Garza to speak at SISD campuses

As part of a continued effort to improve parent involvement, the Migrant Education Program at Region 14 is hosting a parent involvement session with Mr. Antolin Garza from AAIM Consulting from McAllen. He delivers his presentations in a very relaxed, conversational format and makes the audience laugh and reflect through the songs he incorporates into his presentations.

BEST robotics competition kicks off Saturday at TSTC

Texas State Technical College is hosting the Boosting Engineering Science and Technology (BEST) Robotics kick-off on Saturday at the Sweetwater campus. Fifteen teams from area schools will converge on the campus to see this year’s competition field for the very first time.  The theme is “Blade Runner,” which is related to the wind industry.

Wide variety of events planned this weekend

Tonight, Sept. 12, Sweetwater High School graduates and exes, as well as members of the community, are invited to the annual Homecoming Dinner hosted by the Sweetwater Lions Club from 5-7 p.m. in the Sweetwater High School cafeteria.
The Lions Club will be serving fiesta salad with all the fixings, dessert and a drink. You can purchase tickets in advance from a member of the Lions Club.
