Run for the WASP this Saturday

The Fifth Annual 5K Run for the WASP will take place this Saturday at the National WASP WWII Museum, located at 210 Avenger Field Road in Sweetwater.
The event will include a 5K Run for the WASP, 1.3 mile fun walk, and a 1 mile kids race, as part of the celebration honoring the WWII Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) and all veterans. The museum will open at 10 a.m. and registration will begin at 11 a.m. in the WASP Museum parking lot. The race — both the run and walk — will begin at 1 p.m. The kids race will take place as results from the run and walk are being compiled.

Community supports playoff bound teams

Many braved the cold temperatures in Sweetwater on Wednesday evening to support the Sweetwater Mustang football team and the Lady Mustang volleyball team during a community pep rally hosted in their honor at the Nolan County Courthouse.

Ritchey hopes SW has long playoff run

He has been one of Sweetwater's biggest — and best-known — fans since his retirement nearly 17 years ago.
But Tom Ritchey, the Mustangs' head football coach for 12 seasons from 1986-97 who racked up by far the most victories (120) in school history, doesn't get to see many of his old team's games any more.

Jaycees host Veterans Day dinner

The Sweetwater Jaycees held its first annual Veterans Day dinner on Tuesday night at the Jaycee Barn. All local veterans and their immediate families enjoyed a hamburger dinner. The Jaycees resumed the yearly gathering in honoring local veterans which was initially started by the Elks Lodge.

Rollover spills gasoline mixture in Nolan County

November 12, 2014

The driver of an 18-wheeler carrying a mixture of gasoline and diesel was transferred to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in stable condition on Tuesday afternoon after the truck he was driving rolled over on Highway 70 in Nolan County, according to Sweetwater Fire Chief and Emergency Services Manager Grant Madden. He was later transferred to a Lubbock Hospital.
