Sweetwater's forecast for Thursday

We'll have areas of dense fog before 10 a.m. this morning, with a 20 percent chance of showers after that time. Otherwise, expect cloudy conditions with a high near 63 and southern winds at 10 to 15 mph.
Those rain chances will remain tonight, with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 55. Winds will be from the south-southeast at 10 to 15 mph.

Amy's Angel Tree located at Walmart

Amy Rainey, a beloved Sweetwater resident, died nearly four years ago during a domestic altercation. As tragic as her untimely death was, Rainey's memory lives on in the form of Amy's Angel Tree. The tree is located at Walmart, where Rainey worked as a pharmacist.

High school bon fire returns to Sweetwater for community wide pep rally event

December 3, 2014

Sweetwater High School football secured a fourth round playoff seat against Celina High School on Friday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Wichita Falls. The school announced today that Mustang Moms will sponsor a bon fire and pep rally on Thursday, Dec. 4.

West Texas Energy Consortium receives Industry Sector Outreach Award

Sweetwater – Recently, the West Texas Energy Consortium (WTxEC or Consortium) received the Industry Sector Outreach Award from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) at the Annual State Conference in Grapevine. Honoring significant workforce efforts in targeted occupations and positive impacts made to employers, the award includes a $30,000 endowment and recognizes the success experienced in just one short year with the Consortium’s exceptional, integrated approach.

Today, December 3, the Adult Literacy/ESL class will meet at the County-City Library at 9:30 a.m.
Instructors will help you learn to read, improve your reading skills or help you read to your children. Call 235-4978 for more information.
Also, the Pioneer Museum will host Tom Turner for a closing reception of his photographic exhibition, Sublime Gestures, at noon in the WASP room.

Goodfellows toy drive raises over $900

December 2, 2014

Many donated toys, food and money during the annual Sweetwater Goodfellows toy drive on Saturday in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Volunteers gave out free hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee to those who donated.

Cormier indicted for attempted capital murder of a peace officer

December 2, 2014

A Nolan County Grand Jury recently indicted 22 people. Six of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:
Brandon Joseph Cormier was indicted on two counts — attempted capital murder of a peace officer, a first degree felony enhanced with one prior felony conviction and aggravated assault against a public servant, a first degree felony enhanced with one prior felony conviction.

FFB to host coffee, open house

December 2, 2014

The December Chamber Coffee event will be held at First Financial Bank on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 10 a.m. This year, FFB will also host their annual Open House at this time, beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at noon. Everyone is invited to attend and come and go as they please. Refreshments will be served in the lobby of the bank, located at 201 Elm Street.

New Microtel Inn & Suites completes ‘the topping out’ for Sweetwater’s newest hotel

A milestone in the construction of the new Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham located at 9416 N. Interstate 20 was celebrated as Harmon Construction watched as a truss crane hoisted one of the beams atop the new tower keeping the anticipated Spring opening on schedule.
