Texas Workforce Commission honors regional collaboration with $30,000 award

Recently, the West Texas Energy Consortium (WTxEC or Consortium) received the “Industry Sector Outreach Award” from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) at the Annual State Conference in Grapevine. Honoring significant workforce efforts in targeted occupations and positive impacts made to employers, the award includes a $30,000 endowment and recognizes the success experienced in just one short year with the Consortium’s exceptional, integrated approach.

TSTC students honored at award ceremony

Student award winners for the Fall 2014 semester at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater were recently announced. Students are nominated by peers, faculty and staff at Texas State Technical College.

Zimmerman named WTCAC executive director

The West Texas Children's Advocacy Center (WTCAC) welcomed a new executive director last week.
Kelsey Zimmerman, a Nolan County native, has been tapped to run the organization, which specializes in conducting forensic interviews of children who are suspected of having had physical or sexual abuse.

Suddenlink team earns top customer service honor

Suddenlink’s Abilene-Snyder-Sweetwater system team has won an award for the highest customer satisfaction scores of any Suddenlink cable system, based on company surveys conducted the past year. The system also won the award in 2012.

Today, December 9, the RPMH Diabetic Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. They will be meeting in the hospital cafeteria for a Christmas party.
The Sweetwater Jaycees have hooked up a direct line to the North Pole again this year. Call in will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. Children are welcome to call and let Santa know what they want for Christmas. The numbers to call are 236-5812, 725-0113 or 933-9855.
Also, the Sweetwater Aglow Community Lighthouse will have their meeting at 7 p.m. at Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, located at 412 Newman. Speaking will be Minnie Castro from the Aglow Team.

Giving a bicycle for Christmas? Don’t forget the helmet

Bicycles are always a popular gift at Christmas time, and many parents are shopping now for that perfect new bicycle for their child – maybe even their first bicycle. This is an excellent opportunity to teach children about the importance of wearing a helmet to protect their head. According to National Safe Kids, helmets can reduce the risk of severe brain injury by up to 88%, but only 45% of children wear bike helmets. Safe Kids also reports that bicycles are associated with more injuries in children than any other product except automobiles.
