Flippen Group leadership consultant Leone speaks at SISD convocation

Stanley Leone, Jr. was the speaker at the Sweetwater ISD Convocation recently. Leone is a Flip Flippen team member and he says that Capturing Kids’ Hearts was a life changing program for him as a high school student.
“He was a very inspirational speaker,” said Sweetwater ISD Assistant Superintendent Kathy Smartt.

Early detection key to overcoming ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer causes more cancer deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. To help curb the trend, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) is joining a nationwide initiative this September to promote ovarian cancer awareness.
“Ovarian cancer is fifth leading cause of cancer deaths in women age 35-74,” says Dr. Jennifer Liedtke, a Family Practice physician at RPMH. “That’s why it is important to get regular pelvic exams and pay attention to even the most unusual symptom.”

Color Dash at TSTC Sept. 20

The public is invited to participate in a local Color Dash on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 10:30 a.m. starting and ending at TSTC Sweetwater Campus.
"This fun, family-friendly event is going to be a big difference maker — it's your city's brightest 5k run/walk," said event organizers. "The Color Dash is a fun-filled experience for walkers, runners and people of all ages, shapes and sizes."

Broadway Baptist to honor area teachers this Sunday

September 5, 2014

Broadway Baptist Church, located at 710 East Third in Sweetwater, will have a Teacher Appreciation Service on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 10:30 a.m. to honor all Nolan County teachers.
The special service will recognize the efforts made by area teachers as they work with their students on a daily basis. A gift will be given and a prayer of blessing and encouragement will also be made over the teachers as they continue with the school year.

Several events slated for this weekend

For tonight's varsity football game, September 5 at Muleshoe, there will be no pre-sale tickets. They will sell all tickets at the gate at the time of the game.
On Saturday, September 6, the Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Club will conduct a Sight-In Day for anyone wanting to sight in their rifles for the up and coming hunting season from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Their range is located on the east side of Avenger Field Airport. The gate entrance is on the north side of Loop 170 to the airport just across from the SRPC building.
