From March 22 to April 7, community members shopping at Wal-Mart, located at 407 NE Georgia Avenue will have a chance to donate oral care items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.), and breakfast foods (from April 22 to May 5) to students in their district as a part of Champions for Kids' SIMPLE Giving program.
Bronte community leaders will host a regional network luncheon sponsored by Texas Midwest Community Network (TMCN) on Tuesday, March 25,Â at the Bronte Community Center, 116 NE Railroad Street. Community leaders from neighboring communities are invited to attend, enjoy the local cuisine and discuss mutual concerns. The luncheon is held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and cost is $12.50 per person; reservations are requested.

East Ridge Elementary School has been selected as a World-Class School, the highest distinction in the Imagine Nation customer recognition program. Only 26 schools met the rigorous usage standards required of World-Class Schools for the 2012â€“2013 school year. "We congratulate you on achieving this high honor through your consistent use of Imagine Learning and welcome you as a citizen of Imagine Nation," said Imagine Nation representatives.
Buzzi Unicem USA, Ludlum Measurements Inc., UpWind Solutions Inc. and Wind Energy Turbine Services Inc. have partnered with Texas State Technical College West Texas (TSTC West Texas) to provide job training using a $955,052 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
Texas State Technical College is honoring 14 members of its faculty and staff with the TSTC Chancellorâ€™s Excellence Award. Three employees from TSTC West Texas earned the award this year; Jay Burks, Welding Instructor; Ray Fried, Vice President of Administrative Services and Mayra Juarez, Assistant Financial Aid Officer. The TSTC Chancellorâ€™s Award for Excellence was established to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of faculty and staff who serve the students of TSTC and the communities of Texas.

Members of the Nolan County Foundation are announcing their annual Golf Classic has been scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Sweetwater Country Club.
According to Homer Taylor, President and Executive Director of the NCF, this event is the main source of funds for this annual college scholarship event. Started nine years ago, the NCF has already awarded 199 Nolan County graduating seniors $1,000 each to begin their college careers at any Texas college or university.
A local employee of the Texas Department of Transportation was recently honored for his years of service to the agency.
Kenneth Terry, a crew chief for the Nolan County maintenance office, was recognized for his 10 years of service to the department. TxDOT Abilene District Engineer Stan Swiatek (pictured at left), presented the award.
