At Mondays's meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners, a presentation was given by Mike Hart requesting the use of county property located at the Nolan County Coliseum for an Olympic-sized archery range for local youth and the overall public.
Interest in the sport has grown in the county and surrounding communities, with 90 students taking part in the elective class offered this year at Sweetwater Middle School. Throughout the state, hundreds of schools are teaching archery.

Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden and firefighters Ronnie Stegge and Bryan Buckley of the Sweetwater Fire Department traveled to Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater to visit with students in the nursing program. SFD brought along one of their rescue trucks to go over the various tools and equipment that are used in rescue situations.
"We're currently learning emergency care," said third semester nursing student Kristen Hall. "With the things Grant, Ronnie and Bryan have taught us we'll be better prepared to help at the scene of an accident if we ever drive up on one."
Jump Rope Camp will take place August 4-6 for students completing grades Kindergarten through fourth grade.
Third and fourth graders will attend from 9 a.m. to noon and Kindergarten through second graders will attend from 1-3 p.m. Camp will be held at the Sweetwater Intermediate School gym.

Many members of the community showed support for the County-City Library recently by donating and purchasing books, magazines and other items for the annual library book sale.
All money raised from the book sale benefits the local library. A total of $3,324.25 was raised during the weekend event.

Chris Bauman from the Diabetic Outreach Program at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department on Thursday, June 12, from 8:30 a.m. until noon to check blood glucose (sugar) and answer any questions patients may have regarding diabetes. Pamphlets and materials will be available.
