Walking Women of Fisher County to host benefit dance

For six years now, Johnnye Lu Gibson, director of Walking Women of Fisher County, has held a benefit dance with all proceeds going towards Alzheimer's. After seeing her father suffer from Alzheimer's and pass in 2007, it was more than evident why she began this fundraiser and continues to do so.
Best friend to Johnnye Lu, Georgia McGough, co-coordinator, said "You just have to keep a sense of humor and laugh. We think of all the memories and have to laugh because of the silly things he (Johnnye's dad) used to say."

SHS student selected to attend U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar

Sweetwater High School Senior, Mary Morris was selected to attend the United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar in Annapolis, Maryland. The program is a fast-paced, six-day experience for high achievers who have completed their junior year in high school.

Sweetwater's weekend weather outlook

Today we'll have a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 93. Winds will be from the south at 10 to 15 mph.
Those rain chances will increase to 40 percent tonight, with mostly cloudy conditions and a low around 70. Winds from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph will shift to the west after midnight.
Rain chances will linger in the area on Saturday but will disappear by Saturday night. Expect weekend highs in the upper 80s/low 90s, with lows in the upper 60s/low 70s. Winds will shift from the northeast on Saturday to the southeast by Sunday.

Ribbon cutting held for Coliseum, SEED digital sign

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new digital sign outside of Allsup’s convenience store. The sign will be a more efficient way to inform the residents of Sweetwater and the travelers received throughout the summer with upcoming events, weather updates, time and date. The growth of Sweetwater is moving quickly and with technology advancing further each day, the use and effectiveness of this new update is a great addition to local information boards and the growing community.

Open House for Nolan County Sheriff’s Office and Jail slated for July 1

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office and Jail will have its Open House on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 11 a.m.
There will be opening remarks from Nolan County officials beginning at 11 a.m., with a ribbon cutting sponsored by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce.

Amateur Radio “Field Day” June 27 demonstrates science, skill and service

Members of the Nolan County Amateur Radio Association (NCARA) will be participating in the National Amateur Radio Field Day exercise on June 27, at Newman Park/Sweetwater at 10 a.m. This event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.

Faculty and staff support college readiness at SHS

Sweetwater High School teachers, counselors and administrators attended the week-long AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determ-ination) training in Dallas. The purpose of their attendance was to help students prepare for four-year college eligibility. The team was lead by the AVID Coordinator, Rebecca Duncan and Principal, Dr. Ronald Morris.
