Everyone that received vaccines during the month of August was entered into the drawing to celebrate National Immunization Awareness Month.
Two entered guilty pleas to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011.
Randy Lynn Hill pled guilty to forgery, a state jail felony.
For his plea, Hill received two years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-State Jail Division, probated for three years. He will also have to pay a $1,500 fine, $309 in court costs, $775 in restitution and $2,224 in attorney's fees. He will also have to serve 120 hours of community service and shall enter the Teen Life Challenge and successfully complete the program.
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 at the Sweetwater Country Club and will be hosted by State Representative Susan L. King, whose office is located at 401 Cypress, Suite 101 in Abilene.
Rep. King is currently serving her third term in the Texas Legislature. She represents Taylor and Nolan Counties and began serving the two counties in January 2007.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 162 calls for service, issued 20 citations and made nine arrests from Sept. 2-5, 2011.
The SPD received 25, 911 calls.

September is National Cholesterol Education Month and to acknowledge this occasion Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Lab will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E. 12th, on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to offer free cholesterol screening.
Road construction on SEED’s (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) 88 acre industrial park located on I-20 at the western entrance to Sweetwater began recently. In the last two years, SEED has added water, sewer, and 3-phase electricity to the park. To make it “shovel ready,” a term used in the economic development industry to mean “ready to build,” the SEED Board of Directors decided to take bids on constructing an 850' road with a cul-de-sac turn around. The bid was accepted in July and the picture is the beginning of the road construction.
Texas motorists may notice some changes to speed limit signs in the next several months, as new laws regulating speed limits on the roadways of the state highway system begin to take effect.

The traffic flow at Southeast Elementary School has been a headache to some these first two weeks of school — a problem for those involved including students, teachers, parents and law enforcement.
"It is our number one objective to provide a safe place for children to receive an education and enjoy their experience while they are here with us," said Southeast principal Peggy Elliott. "We are working hard to improve the traffic situation to make it flow smoothly for the parents as we maintain our number one goal, the safety of our students."
