Many Halloween activities will continue today in Sweetwater including several Trunk-or-Treats with food and games at local churches.

It is that time of year again and the Sweetwater Goodfellows are getting ready to help Nolan County families in need have a better Christmas. Sweetwater Goodfellows provides food and toys to families with children and individuals in need during the Christmas season. Sign-ups will be at the Sweetwater Fire Station, located at 900 E. Broadway, on Wednesday, Oct. 31, Thursday, Nov. 1, and Friday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. each day.
At the special-called meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners on Tuesday morning, October 30, the only item on the agenda was approved--a contract to remove a battered wall of the Nolan County Courthouse.
Prior to its approval, county attorney Lisa Peterson discussed the contract, though some parts were still to be revised. This project will be completed by an independent contractor between the set dates of Saturday, November 3 through Saturday, December 1, 2012.
Gateway Family Services, though located in Snyder, continues to make a great impact to those in Nolan County through collaborative efforts. At their shelter, residents of the county--who are victims of family violence or sexual assault--are housed in the shelter with transportation provided as necessary, working alongside local law enforcement and hospitals to assist people.
For the 2012 fiscal year, Gateway assisted 766 total clients; 219 of those were from Nolan County.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 39 calls for service, issued two citations and made three arrests on Oct. 29, 2012.
The SPD received 17, 911 calls.

The Halloween forecast is looking great, with sunny skies and a high near 80. Winds from the west around 5 mph will become east-northeast in the afternoon.
Tonight's trick-or-treating will be clear with a low around 56, with southern winds at 5 to 10 mph.

Many Halloween and Fall themed activities have been happening this past week with many of those activities happening today and tomorrow.
Texas State Technical College will be hosting the Halloween Extravaganza once again this year. The date is Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 from 6-9 p.m. in the Student Center at the TSTC Sweetwater campus. Student organizations from the TSTC campus as well as community organizations, church groups and youth groups will be providing fun and spooky games for the evening. Candy and games will be given away as prizes.
Sweetwater Mayor Greg Wortham recently hosted a meet and greet for Christi Craddick, the Republican candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission. The event was held on Friday afternoon, October 26 in downtown Sweetwater.
Craddick has local ties, as her mother grew up in Sweetwater and their family played a strong role in the development of the community for over a century. At the local gathering, some of Craddick's family members were in attendance--such as her young daughter, mother and her grandmother, Jo Nayfa of Sweetwater.
Two Sweetwater teachers recently participated in a workshop organized by Humanities Texas on the plays of William Shakespeare.
Jennifer Aiden and Mary Burrows, who teach English at Sweetwater High School, attended the workshop, which offered teachers the opportunity to work closely with leading scholars, studying the historical and cultural contexts of Shakespeareâ€™s work and strategies for teaching his plays. Nearly 50 teachers from around the state participated.
The workshop was held at the historic Byrne-Reed House in Austin. Â
