Faculty and staff support college readiness at SHS

June 24, 2015

Sweetwater High School teachers, counselors and administrators attended the week-long AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determ-ination) training in Dallas. The purpose of their attendance was to help students prepare for four-year college eligibility. The team was lead by the AVID Coordinator, Rebecca Duncan and Principal, Dr. Ronald Morris.

Concealed handgun law discussed at county meeting

June 24, 2015

During the Nolan County Commissioners' meeting held on Monday, a discussion regarding concealed handgun laws took place with a presentation made by resident Jimmy Headstream.
The purpose of the presentation concerned the passage of Senate Bill 273, which was signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott on June 16.

Music camp begins at FUMC

June 23, 2015

First United Methodist Church held a music camp to which all types of praise was shown, from song to crafts and even a puppet show. Multiple groups were led to new activities every 15-20 minutes with snack and down time.

Bids opened at county meeting for water truck

June 23, 2015

At the Nolan County Commissioners' meeting held on Monday morning, five bids were opened for a water truck for Precinct Four. Four companies submitted bids, with prices ranging from around $71,000 to $142,000.

TEA shares free summer reading resource

AUSTIN – Commissioner of Education Michael Williams and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) encourage young Texans to continue reading throughout the summer. And to assist in that effort, TEA is sharing Find a Book, Texas, a free summer reading online resource.

Cheer camp held at SIS

The Mini Mustang Cheer Camp recently took place for girls between the age of four through completed fifth grade. The camp took place at Sweetwater Intermediate School.

Lion’s Club to host 4th of July parade

The Sweetwater community is invited to the annual 4th of July Parade hosted by the Sweetwater Lions Club on Saturday, July 4, starting at 10 a.m. The parade route will begin on Ash Street, and then will proceed to Broadway and continue east on Broadway to Elm Street, ending at Newman Park.
