Hailey Dunn memorial scheduled

A memorial for Hailey Dunn has been scheduled.
The public has been invited to pay their respects at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, at Colorado City Middle School. The service will be held at the gymnasium, in the area known as "The Pit."
This will be the only chance for the public to pay their respects before Hailey is laid to rest, as the family will have a private service for her burial.
Remains found at Lake J.B. Thomas in March were identified as the Colorado City teen's last month. She had been missing since December of 2010.

Kindergarten Round-Up tomorrow at Southeast

On Tuesday, May 7, Sweetwater Independent School District will host Kindergarten Round-Up at Southeast Elementary School. Personnel from Southeast Elementary will be registering students that will be attending Kindergarten next year in the 2013-2014 school year.

Maxwell was the winning pitcher for Sweetwater, which plays Pampa in the Class 3A area playoffs beginning Friday at Lubbock Christian University.

Local student to receive diploma, degree this month

Ryan Linebaugh, son of Ronny and Portia Linebaugh, will be graduating in May with honors from Sweetwater High School. He will also be graduating Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society from Western Texas College with an Associate's of Arts Degree on May 10.

SMS students place in State TMSCA competition

Recently, 11 students from Sweetwater Middle School competed in the TMSCA (Texas Math and Science Coaches Association) State competition. In attendance were 106 schools and over 2000 middle school students from all over the state of Texas. The competition consists of four different sections. Students compete in Number Sense, Calculator, Mathematics and Science.

Sweetwater Fire Department celebrates 105th anniversary

May 4, 2013 marks the 105th anniversary of the formation of the Sweetwater Fire Department. On May 4, 1908 two companies, Chemical Company No. 1 and Hose Company No. 1, came together and started the Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department. Original charter members from both companies included Bud Brown (foreman), Tom Morris, Jess Hamby, Ed Wilkinson, Dan L. Childress (chief), Dr. A. Brann (foreman), Henry Moffett, D.B. Brown, and Eley Pate. Two more companies, Engine Company No. 1 and Hook and Ladder Company No. 1, were organized on March 2, 1914. Charter members for both were T.B.

Clear Fork Crime Stoppers offering reward

Clear Fork Crime Stoppers, in cooperation with the Fisher County Sheriff’s Office, is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information about a burglary of a habitation which occurred Sunday, April 21, south of Roby. Items taken include firearms and ammunition, a flat screen TV, electronics, a Pampered Chef knife set and other knives. The victim of this crime is offering a substantial cash reward in addition to the money offered by crime stoppers.
Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call the tipline at 800-222-TIPS or text CFCS@CRIMES. All callers remain anonymous.

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting for Amole Express, located at 2014 Lamar Street. Chamber Ambassadors and members of the community joined in welcoming the business to Sweetwater.
