The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 38 calls for service, issued no citations and made no arrests on Aug. 10, 2011.
The SPD received 35, 911 calls.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had four calls for service, served eight civil papers and made no arrests on Aug. 10, 2011.
Calls for service:
• Transport — Acadia in Abilene.
• Stranded motorist — I-20 west bound.
• Welfare concern — 1400 block of FM 1230.
• Inmate transport — Formby Unit.
Total in Custody: 42 (1 Taylor County)

The Sweetwater City Commission met for its regular meeting on Tuesday morning, Aug. 9, 2011 at City Hall for two public hearings as well as an assortment of approvals on action items.
The first public hearing was in regards to the Proposed Budget for 2011-2012, yet no input was heard from the small audience requiring no action to be taken. The proposed budget will raise more total property taxes than last year's budget by 2.74% and of that amount, $53,833 is tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the roll this year.
Campbellfest 2011, a benefit concert for Snyder Police Cpl. Darrell Campbell, is taking shape and several musical acts will perform during the three-day event.
The concert will be held Aug. 19-21 at The Coliseum and organizers have launched a website (www.campbellfest2011. com).
Tickets are available at KSNY and B's Beverage Barn in Snyder and Sharp Shooter's in Lubbock. The cost is $20 in advance for adults and $25 if purchased at the door. Children between the ages of six and 11 will be admitted for $10 while those five and under will be able to attend free.
Congressman Mike Conaway made a pit stop in Sweetwater on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011 for a lunchtime meeting with local community leaders at the Sweetwater Country Club.
The Republican representative of the 11th Congressional District of Texas led the discussion about several of the happenings in Washington as well as issues which affect local voters.
Bonten Media Group’s KTXS-TV (ABC) and KTXE-TV (ABC) became the first television stations in the Abilene-Sweetwater and San Angelo markets to broadcast local news in high definition (HD) at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011.

August 10th
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for those to be honored as Outstanding Young Citizen, Outstanding Female Citizen and Outstanding Male Citizen for 2011. Nominations are also being accepted for Sweetwater's Business of the Year award.
Several local fire departments assisted in a Taylor County fire on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 south of Trent.
Nolan County fire departments fighting the blaze included Sweetwater Fire Department, Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department, Nolan Volunteer Fire Department and Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department, along with several Taylor County fire departments and the Texas Forest Service providing a spotter plane and a task force. The Sweetwater Elks Lodge provided refreshments for the firefighters.
According to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden, about 350 acres of land were burned in the blaze.
The SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) Board of Directors met for its regular monthly meeting on Monday morning, Aug. 8, 2011 at the Chamber of Commerce.
Two significant action items on the agenda were considered by the board, one including the renewal of the $475,000 line of credit loan for EMA. Board members browsed an informative packet while a brief presentation was made by SEED member John Jay.
