During Monday morningâ€™s SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board of directorsâ€™ meeting, one update offered information on various upcoming events that the economic development group will be involved with.
Kirstin Smith, the Asst. Marketing/Admin. Director, stated that in a little over a month, Senior Interview Day will be conducted on Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24. Volunteers are needed to interview the students, and board members can either take part themselves or send a representative from their business to attend.
Step back in time with Bennie Wheels, Johnny Cash tribute artist, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium on Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. and enjoy classic Johnny Cash hits that are still loved today by all generations.Â
He not only offers a sound and look comparable to Cash. His wife, Renee, also looks and sounds like June Carter Cash, and she will perform alongside her husband as she has on the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium stage before.
With the city election coming up on Saturday, May 11, approval was given at Tuesday's Sweetwater City Commission meeting for the appointment of election judges and alternate judges.
They will be Kevin Shipp and Jim Kelley (Precinct 1), Ada Belle Clark and Rhea Hendrix (Precinct 2), Barbara Baker and Chris Stephens (Precinct 3) and Ann McCarthy and Olga Balderas (Precinct 4).
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 43 calls for service, issued two citations and made one arrest on Mar. 12, 2013.
The SPD received 14, 911 calls.

â€˘ Female juvenile, 15 â€” Runaway.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had eight calls for service, served two civil papers and made one arrest on Mar. 12, 2013.

â€˘ Jessica Lynne Hallford, 27, of Abilene â€” Driving while intoxicated.
Calls for service:
â€˘ Reckless driver â€”Â I-20 MM 261 west bound.

Texas country artist Josh Grider will be in Roscoe for a performance at The Lumberyard on Friday, March 15.
Grider is currently featured on the "Troubadour, Texas" television series as an artist "chasing the dream". Prior to his local performance, he held the #1 spot on the Texas Regional Radio Report for two weeks in a row, as well as the #2 spot on the Texas Music Chart, for his song "Lonestar Highway".

Toward the conclusion of the meeting of SEED's (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board of directors, an executive session was held to discuss various matters.
Following the closed meeting, the agenda listed for the board to "review and consider approving a resolution from the City of Sweetwater requesting SEED's assistance in funding improvements to a portion of their water/sewer lines."
However, while a motion was made on the matter, a second failed to be offered, thus killing the motion.
Miss Texas DaNae Couch visited several Sweetwater schools while visiting Sweetwater this past week for the Rattlesnake Round-Up. Couch also attended the Miss Snake Charmer Pageant and was seen at the Rattlesnake Round-Up all weekend.
Couch graduated with distinction from Baylor University's Honors College with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Public Relations. After graduation, she began pursuing her Doctor of Jurisprudence at Texas Tech University School of Law where she is in her third year.
Two blood drives were originally planned to take place in Sweetwater on Thursday, March 14. One drive was planned to take place at the Nolan County Courthouse and the other at the Lions Club building from noon until 6 p.m., however, only the blood drive at the Nolan County Courthouse will take place tomorrow.
